i still maintain that char-grill has the hands down best burgers of all time.

between the lunch crowd during the day and drunk crowd at night, a char-grill located in midtown (atl) would pay for itself in a month. and yet, i don't act to make this happen.

Yep. Best burgers in Raleigh IMO, so glad they put one in Durham near where I'm moving to in a couple weeks. I will still be able to get my fix whenever necessary.

The shakes aren't really *terrible* but they're so thick they're not so much shakes as they are a cup of soft-serve ice cream. Cook Out for shakes (and bbq trays) but Char-Grill wins hands down for burgers.

Cloos' for hot dogs but that's neither here nor there.

^ Agreed! The BBQ sandwich and the burgers are AMAZINGGGGG. It's REAL BBQ. Cookout's is like watery and greasy...too fake for me (even though I get it occasionally). LOL Their shakes are good, but sometimes too thick. I do like Cookout's shakes typically better.

Chargrill > Cookout

i, too, thought bacon on grilled cheese was common, as i have been eating it for years. grilled cheese with provolone, bacon, and kraut on rye is where it's at.

it is, but you are describing a grill sandwich that happens to have cheese on it. not a grilled cheese sandwich.

so where do we draw the line here? when going from 2 ingredients to 3 ingredients the cheese becomes a topping instead of the main focus?

I think the line is whether cheese is the majority of the incredients. like with a cheese and bacon sandwich there is typically more cheese than bacon. at least that is my suggestion.

word.

well then let me put it like this so nobody gets offended.

grilled cheese with bacon OR grilled cheese with kraut, ftw.

no shit ... me too and when i make a grill cheese i usually use about 3 different cheeses, bacon and i sauté some onions peppers and mushrooms first to add in before i start the actual grilled cheese sammich

be careful, you're crossing the line between "grilled cheese sandwich" and "grilled sandwich" if you put more than 1 topping on.

one day we were walking back drunk from downtown and i went to chargrill and the two friends i were with went to snoopy's. when they came back they had burgers. i nearly slapped them.

char grill is for burgers and snoopy's for dogs.

i live by and work by a char grill so i get my fill

CG actually has some decent BBQ sammiches

I don't think I've ever had this happen to me. Then again I don't go at night that often, it might be more common then. Regardless the newer franchise ones have indoor seating.

That sounds like a variation on a Reuben. I'm sure it's good though... I like to make my grilled cheese with sliced tomato and oregano, personally. But about 75% of the time I'll choose a tuna melt over grilled cheese.

As to the BBQ between Char-Grill and Cook Out, it's kind of an apples and oranges comparison--Char-Grill's is pulled, whereas Cook Out's is chopped IIRC. CG's has more meat and generally I prefer pulled to chopped, but I like Cook Out's sauce/seasoning better. Though it does have an annoying tendency to soak the bun if you don't eat it right away.

yes! but now i make it myself too! that and the veggie burger are like my favorite things from the times. followed by the bean cakes and the chicken salad. but i love the grilled cheese so much i almost always get that.

oh unless we are counting appetizers in which case the cheese fries and/or pork nachos will probably lead to the cardiac death of me oh man i love the times haha.
