my company is closing Friday and Monday, but us hourly interns arent getting any kind of credit for the missed work opportunity.Obviously its up to the company, but is this normal? At other companies we would get credit for each day

When I was a temp, the office was closed but I didn't get Holiday pay. I had the option of working on the Holiday to make up the hours, or just going unpaid.
5/21/2009 4:26:28 PM
I've never heard of hourly workers getting holiday pay.
5/21/2009 4:27:02 PM
if you are paid hourly, you don't get paid if you don't work.but if you are expected to work 80 hours in a pay period, you usually aren't required to make up the hours.[Edited on May 21, 2009 at 4:29 PM. Reason : .]

5/21/2009 4:29:31 PM

where I work, as long as the employee has been with the company long enough and shows up the day before and the day after the holiday, they get paid for an average day
5/21/2009 4:36:30 PM
^sd2nc, cute, but we're not allowed to come in on weekends anyway. We cant work more than 40 hours a week eitherThe last company i worked paid us hourly too, which is why i find this weird[Edited on May 21, 2009 at 4:39 PM. Reason : k]

eh, it has it's ups and downs I guessIf I'm sick, want to take vacation, want to flex, etc... I can just not be at work, and not expect my paycheck to suffer...but, it's like hey, here's this bucket-o-money....I'm just going to set this on your lap. In return, I'll dump a ridiculous amount of work on you and expect you to do it without complaining. Good luck finding time to take vacation!so a 40 hour week is "normal". But I usually end up working more than that. Don't really get paid for overtime either.]
5/21/2009 4:37:16 PM
i've been part-time with 4 weeks pto and paid holidays, but that's probably not too common
5/21/2009 4:39:43 PM
I've only worked a couple M-F hourly positions and it was years ago, but they never paid for any holidays off. We did get 1 and a half time when we worked em though

i wish i was getting paid. we're closing at noon tomorrow (3 hr workday) and closed monday, but i didn't dare ask if that was paid. i'd never assume as much, only wish.
5/21/2009 5:20:00 PM
when i was an intern/co-op we earned pto at the same rate as full time folks and got holiday payit was very nice
5/21/2009 5:24:14 PM
im salaried, so i get holidays and all that good shit. no overtime or anything.its funny when some of our hourly technicians talk about how awesome it is to have 1.5x overtime. i always think in my head how awesome it is to be making 2-3x their annual income (even with all their precious overtime)our hourly folks get paid vacation and holidays at the same rate of us salaried people]

When I worked construction for my uncles, hourly and salary employees got paid holidays. I got paid holidays when I was salaried with the gubment (duh). I got paid holidays when I was hourly at a local engineering firm. I get paid holidays now and I work at a different local engineering firm. Some of the construction sites that I'm working on are going to be working Monday and some aren't. It's a company thing.

I've never heard of "holiday pay"To me, if you don't work, you don't get paid. Pretty simple.
