I played at this place last summer

http://www.xlsoccerworld.com/

its where western and hillsborough meet

I had a blast and thought that the league was fairly competitive (my team was B league and we did decently, we played a couple of A teams and got our asses kicked though)

The best part is its indoor so you dont have to be in quite as good of shape as if you were playing full field

[Edited on May 22, 2009 at 12:54 PM. Reason : it cost about $60 a person for our team I think]

for pick up try miller fields around 7:30pm or so when they aren't closed. If the fields are closed try Lee Fields.

tasl's summer heat is fairly inexpensive. try putting your name in the free agent pool.

check out http://meetandcompete.com/. tri sports is a social sports league, so it's decently competitive and pretty fun. also, i think it's about $40/person.

the soccer leagues i was in with them were sponsored by Sammy's so you got a free beer if you won a game.
don't know if they still do that though.

If you are interested in pickup soccer then go to the yahoo groups page and search for RDUPICKUPSOCCER. They have a 9:30 am Saturday morning pickup game at Davis Drive Park. I haven't been in about 2 years though. It can get up to 13 vs 13 with no out of bounds and little unorganization. I was told about a year ago that the Davis Drive fields were closed for seeding and resurfacing. The back up location for the Saturday game is White Oak Park around the corner.

You can expect to play with, or against some talented hispanics, former juco's, former college club players, talented people of many other races, and some old people with very little skill.
