Who are you honoring today?

Luckily, I don't personally know anyone that was killed in action, but several relatives have served in various conflicts, dating back to WWII.

i don't know anyone personally who was killed in action either. but tons of friends and relatives have served or are currently serving.

my grandmother's boyfriend (haha. who is practically like my grandfather) just turned 90 this weekend. i never knew it until now, but he was awarded the bronze star for like saving someone's life or something. but he doesn't talk about it. because he doesn't think it is a big deal. both of my real grandfathers served. my dad, my uncles, and many of my cousins have also served or are serving.

^ hahaha someone was lost???

I was kinda shocked the Univ. didn't do ANYTHING at the Belltower today. No flowers, signs, wreaths, nada.

It is a MEMORIAL Tower. Seems only fitting.

I'm a bit pissed about that.

Only Lt. Erin Watada and Spc. Michael New. I'll salute the others when they act the same.

I can trace my family back to veterans in pretty much every American war since (and including) the revolution. My parents' respective family members shot at each other in the Civil War. None of the ones I can locate died in combat, though.

I'm glad that they all survived. I hope they did so honorably, and I hope that I can make something of that.

I know the various ROTC's do something on Veteran's Day. Maybe nothing for Memorial day because it's in the summer and there aren't as many people around, I don't know.

But one of my favorite quotes in all history, which is inscribed in the belltower:

"And they shall beat their swords into plowshares"

I've tried very hard to set my life on a course to try to achieve that.
