I have a Lenovo thinkpad t61 and all of the recovery stuff is on a partition and I can't figure out how to access it and completely reinstall Vista.
Anybody know how to do this? 5/26/2009 11:27:27 PM |

1) Hold down the Blue ThinkVantage button on your laptop when you turn on the computer. 2) ... 3) Profit

In my nature to point out when people are too lazy and stupid to try and help themselves?
Yup. And damn proud of it too.
It's too bad more people don't try to shame morons like stewieg123 into thinking for themselves. 5/26/2009 11:54:10 PM |

Did you happen to buy it at the bookstore?
They should be able to run the reformatting discs through it for you so the recovery partition will work again and you'll have a fresh install to work from.
If not, try calling up IBM tech support and convince them to give you the discs for free. 5/27/2009 12:22:37 AM |

Should not need discs.
When you press the blue ThinkVantage button at boot-up, it should automatically load you into a Windows environment - "Rescue and Recovery," which has all kinds of options for restoring from images, backing up to images, and even restoring to Factory State.
Do not press F12. Use the blue button.
If Rescue and Recovery does not start INSTEAD of Windows Vista when you push the blue button, then something is really wrong.
To be clear: you do NOT want the boot menu.

If you want to do it the "F" key method, it's not F12, it's F11.
But, you can use the blue ThinkVantage button as well. Either way should get you to the recovery partition. If it still doesn't send you directly to the recovery partition, then you are SOL. You will need to get recovery CD's or send your machine to Lenovo. 5/27/2009 10:26:08 AM |

^^ Erm, if you didn't buy it there then uh...
Well, don't go there. If you did buy it there, take it there and milk it for all it's worth. You should get a loaner laptop to use for a short period of time as well, if they haven't discontinued the program yet.
All of the Bookstore servicing stuff will be discontinued not too far from now, based on what my old boss told me when I was visiting a couple weeks ago. 5/28/2009 12:21:42 AM |
