I searched for a similar thread but didn't have any luck...

I am going to need to board my dog for Friday night. I'm not worried about money at all. I will spend whatever I need to, to make sure that my dog is at a great boarding place where he will enjoy himself. I've always been sketch about some places, as I've heard horror stories. I've done some research on my own, and Suite Paws looks like a great place and has some great online reviews. Has anyone here had any personal experiences with Suite Paws, some other great place, or any place to stay away from? Any feedback would be helpful.

i used to work at camp bow wow up at brier creek. i don't know if they're still open but it was decent. i liked the open play areas where they can play all day instead of being locked up and only playing for an hour for extra money.

Suite Paws is great...I would rank it 2nd after Camp Canine in Cary.

Chances are your dog isn't going to be that happy at a strange place without you there anyway, so I would recommend finding a veterinary office that boards as well, that way you know your dog will at least be safe. I can name a few places in western NC but not near here.

Camp Canine in Cary is fantastic.

Falls Pointe might have killed my dog.

I've boarded my dog at Pupsi, and I'm happy with it. Full service doggie daycare, boarding, grooming, and obedience. They have a nice, large play area, important for my active dog.

Most vets (I would imagine any place that boards, too) require the dog to be current on all vaccines, including bordetella

the first time we boarded him, we did it through a vet. All dogs are supposed to be up on their shots but he still came back with kennel cough. Also, I want to board him in a place where he gets to run all day, not be in a cage.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I am no longer going to need to board him, since our camping trip is getting rained out. I will keep all these suggestions in mind for the future.

^^^ yea i worked at a vet and a boarding place (shady grove - don't think it exists anymore OR it got purchased by some corporate thing and i've heard bad things) and the boarding place still reqd shots (though like you said, shit still happens) and my dog LOVED it. runs and outdoor running spaces and walks. i prefer not to have to board, but if i did, would much rather see my dog in a run than a tiny cage.

but when she got old we started boarding her at the vet just incase something went wrong.

Where to board really depends on your dog. If you have a younger dog who is still very active, staying any place other than the all day play places is just plain cruel. They stay in a cage and only come out two to three times a day to potty. My dog would go insane if boarded there, and many dogs do develop neurotic problems while they're boarding.

However, if you have a timid dog, anti-social dog, elderly or infirm dog, the vet is the way to go. But keep in mind, over night and on the weekends your dog is still mostly on its own. Kennel people will check on the dogs occasionally and feed them and let them potty, but other than that no one is there.
