Why have women bough into the whole, "All women are crazy" stereotype? ...

There have been a couple of, "Women are crazy" threads, and the female posters seem to just say, "We all are crazy, just deal with it."

What's up with that?

well...in my experience, they really are. there are some that beat you over the head with it right after you meet them, and there are some that you can date for years before it rears its bat-shitting head

Well I've said it before and i'll say it again. I think everyone is crazy...including the guys. Not one person out there doesn't have some sort of mental issue. I just think when you've found someone that seems normal to you is because you found someone that is compatible with your craziness.

Most women just act based on whatever assumptions flit arbitrarily into their heads, all the while knowing but not caring that they're wrong.

Ideally a man will be so eager to please said woman that he will allow actual reality to be supplanted by whatever reality the woman tells them to accept.

If she's attractive enough, someone will fall for her bullshit.

There are some women who care about reality. They're just hard to find.

Lies. I've met really cool, normal girls. Not crazy, in great relationships, raised by great parents. Not all people have crazy mental issues. Just a majority of them.

I really do think that a lot of females are crazy though. Either it's readily apparent or it's like a time release capsule.

Men act irrationally a lot of the time, too, but their irrationality is predictable. There's a clear pattern to it. That's because we have a more limited set of irrational responses. And even these things tend to follow a certain rationality in that they at least have a stated goal. We hit something because we're mad at it and want to punish it, for example. It's an irrational response, unlikely to fix anything and quite likely to make the situation worse. But you can see how, in the heat of the moment, you might hit someone. That's the other key factor: it's in the heat of the moment, not a week later when everyone has completely forgotten about the thing that initially pissed the man off.

But with women, sometimes there's just no recognizable process to the craziness. The irrational response will come way after the impetus for it. It will not only make matters worse -- it won't appear to have anything to do with why she's upset.

I should point out that I really cast no judgment on which is preferable. Male irrationality brought us the Mongol hordes, two world wars and atom bombs. Maybe if the roles had been reversed, life would be paradise. Then again, maybe we'd have been extinct for a thousand years. Hard to say, really.

Ok, my deep evolutionary/psychological analysis:

Men, as the hunters, are programed to deal intensely with immediate situations. They deal with one at a time, they let it go, they move on to the next one.

Women, with less opportunity for active intervention, became more aware of the nuances of social interaction - looking for opportuinites over time to move themselves and their podigy up the social hierarchy. The result is the propensity to ruminate over, and analyze in detail, interpersonal interactions so they can make their plays.

The problem with ruminating over events, from a psychological point of view, is that the rumination over time can have more affect on the ruminator than the actual event itself. An event causes an instantanous chemical reaction, but replaying that event can cause a similar chemical reaction potentially hundreds of times.

This propensity to ruminate, coupled with an acute awareness of social and interpersonal dynamics manifests itself as seemingly random crazyness.

Oh, yeah, men are crazy because they'll do anything to satisfy their dicks ... (P.S. - that's why they lie all the time. They'll say anything to get their dick wet. This total lack of sincerity confuses the hell out of women. They analyze it to death, and it doesn't make any sense except in the dick-wetting context).

How many women will really like a guy but balk at the idea of approaching him? Guys can use this "biological imperative" scapegoat answer for as long as they like, but cheating isn't cool. It's like if you assign women the biological imperative of bearing children but then say they're crazy for poking holes in condoms. I certainly think both situations depend more on the decisions the individual makes, but by your standard they're just doing what their biology suggests they should.

Sometimes I get the feeling that popular media is reinforcing, even glorifying female irrationality. LOST and Battlestar Galactica are two of my favorite shows, but I often feel like the main female characters in these dramas are given way too much faith/friendship/trust/etc in spite of their incredibly irrational behavior. I think in real life these women would have no friends or allies, and they would not be repeatedly pursued by the same men they've fucked over. ie: Starbuck would have been blown out an airlock by the 3rd season, and no one would give a flying fuck about Kate Austin.

Of course its TV, not reality, but you catch my drift - it still affects what people think is "normal" behavior because these shows are based on realistic human interaction. Maybe there's even examples of male irrationality being glorified, but I'm just not noticing them.

Example from last night:

Hanging out at a girl's apartment with some other people. Girls' roommate leaves. Girls promptly tell me, "She's getting kicked out next month, but I don't want to tell her about it so I'm going to just let the landlord handle it. Also she's a stripper but told me to tell people she's a fitness instructor."

Nobody had asked. They just wanted to volunteer. The cattiness aspect is another thing men find largely incomprehensible. Any dude who doesn't just man up and say, "Yo, homes, you're out next month" is ostracized.
