I just got back from the theater. Its Sam Raimi at his best. The car fight scene was awesome. It was reminiscent of some Bruce Campbell battles. I give it two thumbs up.

definitely go see this with a full house. we caught a matinee and got stuck with some punk bitches and a bunch of stereotypical viewers of color. It was obvious no one had a clue who Sam Raimi was as shouts such as "wut is dis, looney toonz? letz go see Up" were made.

hahahahhaa

one review I read said the humor in this is Looney Tunes to the evil dead series' Three Stooges humor.

Must be the anvil i've heard so much about

If you've never seen Evil Dead, I'm sure you can't appreciate this film. Please tell me Bruce Campbell has a cameo.

Saw it last night.

SO many nods to the old Evil Dead films (Sam's old car being one of them, the super aggressive handkerchief being another, etc etc).

No Bruce cameo, and no Ted cameo from what we could tell.

We both really enjoyed it.

I thought this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Maybe I didn't get it.

The scene where she's all wet in the graveyard was hot though, she looked good there.

Lots of "Shock" scares. Keeps you on the edge a lot of the time. Was a little over the top at moments, but I would hardly call it "goofy".

There were a few "I'm a Mac" moments with Justin and apple products. His mom is all like "Why are you dating this girl? She's clearly a PC"

The very last scene was surprisingly disturbing for me. I can't get it out of my head.

Raimi must have been going through some kind of oral fixation during the filming.

As a campy horror flick, this was really fun. It had a bit too much of the old woman vomitting and nomming on Christine for me though.

One of my friends called the twist once she fumbled in the car and I was all

haha, yea the twist wasnt all that unexpected but overall I really enjoyed this movie, and I really haven't enjoyed a lot of "modern" horror films I've seen over the past several years. Sure they relied on jack in the box scares I usually dislike but the whole movie was sorta tongue-in-cheek anyways so they didn't bother me much. The scares managed to be scary enough in their initial appearance but also absurd enough to be laughed at immediately after; it was a nice mix.

I saw this last night, and it blew me away!?

Given the pg-13 rating, my expectations were lowered, but it surpassed all

After the movie, I felt a little unsettled, and that is an epic thing to feel from a movie.

I thought it was cinematic vomit and if I could get my time and money back, I would.
That being said, I laughed my ass off during the scene at his parents when she was talking about the cat

That was Fucking Retarded. It was not scary, it was cheesy as fuck and it was predictable as hell. I saw the "twist" coming the second she got in the damn car with her boyfriend. Even on a campy cheesy level it was not good or even remotely interesting. But, I guess that is what I should expect from the douchebag that directed Spiderman. Anyways, remind me not to take my movie reviews from the wolf web anymore. Those of you who liked it, I really dont see why, unless you are like a tween perhaps.

^^everyone I was with saw the "twist" too and still enjoyed it; I don't think the movie was meant to be some psychological thing with a hard to understand twist. And of course it was cheesy. All I know is that I have not really been entertained with any horror films I've seen over the past several years, and this one was actually very entertaining. No the movie wasn't scary overall, it was just fun in a tongue-in-cheek kinda way.

If you're reviewing it from a super critical film perspective, then no its not going to be winning tons of awards or anything, but its gotten favorable reviews on any movie review site I read and I enjoyed it /shrug

I saw this and thought it was fairly good. With all the talk of Raimi's "return to horror," it inspired me to watch the Evil Dead trilogy, which I'd never seen but always meant to watch. You should check those out, Republican.

That statement is just overflowing with irony. This movie obviously was not for you. All trolling aside this was the exact mentality of the fuckface 7th graders we endured in the back row offering their ignorant commentary. It sucks that you couldn't make the showtime for Up.

I think everyone will see the twist coming. Honestly, only seeing about 30 minutes of Army of Darkness and not fully understanding Raimi's approach (though I was more or less brought to speed the moment after the car scene) I felt manipulated and "had" for calling the twist. And then, the entire time it fucked with my head for all of the wrong reasons and I instantly wanted to take it back for fear of embarrassing myself.

I don't believe anyone is nominating this for every award possible, it's just very hard to find anything blatantly wrong with the film (unless you're late to the party and armed with impossible expectations). Especially if you look at the scene-for-scene theater experience it offers you and not the film as a whole.

/2c.rant

Ah, basically what CalledToArms said. I guess I should read everything before ranting.

If you're not some movie douche, and you're just going to see what looks like it says is a scary movie, then you probably won't like it. It's not scary, the effects are pretty stupid and crappy, and it's just over the top with all the crap that happens. But then again, the people that are movie douches are saying that's what they like about it, so whatever. It wasn't the worst movie ever like I said earlier, but it wasn't necessarily good either and I wouldn't pay to see it again.

yeah we had 3 retard high school kids behind us during this movie. they wouldn't stop laughing for like the first 20 minutes.... just non stop, not because of the movie. they were also throwing shit at each other and talking a lot. took a couple "shut the fuck up"s for them to stop. and they promptly bolted when the movie ended.

Bitch got what she was coming to her...

You can't just shame someone and expect to get away with it...just so happens the person knew her weakness...curses from hell.

seriously though...been a horror film fan since i was a child and i enjoyed the movie. What worked for me were the amplified sounds.

Things i didnt like were some of the cgi scenes, the mac shit, and the boy at the beginning... I mean, we saw what happened to alison lohman. Bitch was tormented constantly with horrific shit. Was it the 3rd day since the kid had stolen the necklace? I believe it was. He seemed minorly spooked...I wanted him to be out of control with fear from the happenings of those past three days.

there are a lot of movie douches in this thread, on both sides of the movie. I know Sam Raimi's work but that didn't change anything.

This movie was excellent. It was thrilling, suspenseful, and it was fucking scary. So much better than shit like Hostel that's been passing for horror these days.
