A few sneak peaks at player ratings, and an interesting article discussing 5 new aspects of the game are out now.

The one i'm most excited about is they are going to widen the gap between the elite players and the bad ones. Supposedly there are players with overall ratings down in the 40's now!

in an ideal world they would only put out a new edition every few years with some new, well thought out features, and let you just update the rosters every year on your current edition

yeah, sucks that they gouge people every year when they could just send out updated rosters, but I have had my 360 for 3 years now and literally the only games I own are NCAA Football and Madden so its not too bad buying 2 games a year

this is NCAA related but I read where you will be able to do a mix and match of uniforms before u start the games. You can mix and match helmets, jerseys, pants and shoes....so state will have all white and all red in this years games. And Oregon will have 256 different combinations probably.

I think I remember reading that this will probably be in Madden as well

2 years ago they had the "buy madden get another game free" thing, so I ordered Madden and Bioshock.

Only madden came, and I called them up and I'm like "Hey bioshock didn't come."

They said "bioshock was sold out, sorry" and I said "let me get (insert game, forgot what it was now) instead".

Running in superstar mode is much harder than it was 2 years ago.

I started a superstar with Andre, for some reason got promoted to starter over Jacobs, and after 3 games have a rushing average of 1.9 yards per carry.

It doesn't help that the coach keeps calling HB stretch plays that get blown up instantly.

I havent bought Madden since '05 but it seems like they\ve touched on a few of the things I wanted to see changed about the game.

The gameplay itself is awesome IMO, best madden yet.

But they cut out a lot of the features in the franchise and superstar mode. A lot of those were worthless and superfluous, but it was still nice to have them in case I wanted them.

Ha, I found a nice bug. If you're in franchise mode and you have a player that was out with an injury (coming into the game), sim to the end of the game and then restart it. After doing this, the injured player should be out there for you. I've done this twice now with Santonio Holmes, so it seems consistent.

actually it looks like you can restart the game without having to sim to the end first, so just restart the game whenever you can and it should work. keep in mind that any injured players the opponent had coming in will also be able to play.

Something else I found (might be changed with the roster update, don't know), Plaxico Burress is a free agent at the start of the game, and can be signed for about 3 mil a year.

are you able to switch first rounders?

trade players on your team with high salaries for lower priced/same stat players on other teams?

i think it mas Madden '07, i started with the panthers and not much cap room - traded lets say julius peppers having a 90-ish rating for a player that was just as good for much less and just repeated it for every position. Actually traded Delhomme for Vick I think. Then took all the remaining cap room to sign better backups for positions like CB where we were thin. My team rating was like a 90 I think after that.

Are there rookie holdouts or something in this game?

I drafted a LT 9th overall, and absolutely cannot get him to sign for less than 5 years/75 million dollars.

This is like higher than any rookie has ever been paid, and this isn't a QB or the #1 pick (staffords is higher overall but 6 years). He turns out to be 84 overall, which is very good for a rookie, but I don't want to pay a rookie that much.

Resolved it.

If you can't sign someone, just turn on the CPU signs draft picks option and simulate past it, it signs for the default money/years you see when you first open up the screen.

Got him for 5 years 46 mil.

im not a big fan of this game.

looks and plays like it was rushed. It has the feel of playing madden 02 or something similar.

If people are saying that NCAA sucks and this is the bomb then i would hate to own NCAA...

^^ I'm a big fan of the game.

It's not as fast paced or "spectacular" as 08 (last one I played), but it seems much more realistic. You get stuffed in the run game pretty often, and it's all the more satisfying when your blocks develop perfectly and you break off that 20 yard run.

Also the fumbles aren't as bad as in 08. I've had many 6 or more fumble games in 08.

first impression:

seems strangely slow. makes playing feel really awkward. also, running is HARD.

played one game yesterday w/ the chargers (VS THE FUCKING CHIEFS). . .

Rivers: 16/22, 209 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
Tomlinson: 15 carries, 12 yards

biggest gain on the ground was 4 yards.

I've been playing Madden for like, 1000 years.

running is definitely harder and you have to fiendishly follow the blocks if you want to have a chance to bust a 5+ yd run.

I'm enjoying it though.
