are you set for life if you get hit by a cop? kinda like if you get hit by the wolfline?

then again i guess no matter what its the SUV's fault he got hit if the cop had his siren on.

not necessarily

yes, when we're driving emergency traffic, we can choose not to heed speed limits/traffic signals/etc...

BUT we can only do so if we do not cause harm or make unsafe conditions for other motorists. that's why you don't see ambulances just speed through an intersection - we slow down first and make sure everyone knows we're there.

so, if the cop was being reckless, he's at fault. good luck on proving that, though.

Generally speaking, if you get hit by an emergency vehicle that is running sirens and lights, the emergency vehicle is "responsible" if they are in a collision.

emergency traffic doesn't always mean disregarding traffic laws.

True... and that normally doesn't matter. If they are running lights and sirens, they are deemed responsible.

According to a Durham PD officer i know, if he is in a wreck while running lights and siren, the PD takes responsibility for the accident. The same is supposedly done with FD and most EMS.

never heard that before.

of course, i've never been associated with a department who has had an accident while running code 3... only accident was cold coming back from the hospital... drunk guy ran a red light and plowed into the truck... despite this, people in the community still said it was our fault.
