Good work getting your designers to work those late nights getting your complex 3D design models done in time for the big meeting. They're going to be unable to work efficiently more than 6-7 hours a day because of your new policy! What an ass. This is not a good idea. Also if standing enhances employee relationships it's because their cubicles are too tall. Can't see the forest for the trees, this fellow.

i admire this dude...wish you could do more shit like that and get the best workers...survival of the fittest

^^ That or it's because they're all plotting his demise.

business in japan is incredibly different from business over here

looks like a damn prison[Edited on May 31, 2009 at 1:54 PM. Reason : without the whole cages/bars thing]

I fail to see how this is any different from working in a grocery store as a cashier. The only difference I see is that they have nice soft carpet to stand on, while cashiers stand on a hard concrete floor.
5/31/2009 2:14:23 PM
cashiers have that little cushioned mat to stand on
5/31/2009 2:15:42 PM
sometimes they do
5/31/2009 2:16:16 PM
the last time I worked at a grocery store it was for 3 days before I quitI doubt I'd last at this guy's corporate sweat shop much longer
5/31/2009 2:18:14 PM
i also figure in japan, you're more likely to have 12-14 hour shifts much more so than here in the states, esp for a technical job at a big corporation. i doubt they get breaks either
5/31/2009 2:20:34 PM
no wonder they have suicide clubs and sell school girls underwear in vending machines
5/31/2009 2:27:52 PM
^^ Shifts are only 8 hours, but you're expected to come in early and finish late. Generally salaries are small enough that the company encourages this behavior by paying overtime.
5/31/2009 4:45:58 PM
Do they still have 40 hour work weeks?
5/31/2009 5:42:01 PM
I worked as a gas station cashier and stood 8 hours at a time. You guys are all serious pussies if you think that standing is hard.
5/31/2009 5:49:18 PM
ow my flat flat feet!
5/31/2009 6:04:16 PM
^^ srsly. i stood on my feet at my first job for almost 6 years. quit your whining
5/31/2009 6:05:44 PM
i work standing up whenever i can at offices. at home depot corporate, the desks could actually elevated high enough to stand and type. i am much more productive standing up, and have a lot more energyof course, i was also in the military for almost a decade and rarely had somewhere to sit
5/31/2009 6:11:21 PM
there is a difference between a cashier making 8.75/hr and a professional making 87,500/yr.
5/31/2009 6:12:28 PM
i like standing up at work sometimes. i feel like i can think clearer for some reason[Edited on May 31, 2009 at 6:18 PM. Reason : i routinely get up and walk around to think about how to do whatever task i'm working on]

I can almost guarantee you JBTilley is overweight and breathes with his mouth. At his desk.
6/1/2009 9:00:18 AM
Lol. You got me. But I'd rather have a job that has a bit of freedom than one that requires to stand all day. Probably just because I've got bad varicose veins due to being a bit overweight.
6/1/2009 9:07:37 AM
I function much better on the phone whenever I'm standing up, walking around, putting, shooting at the nerf hoop, etc..But if I'm doing a repetitive task like that, I'd prefer to sitThis whole thing reminds me of
6/1/2009 9:12:15 AM
^aha, seinfeld... that was a humorous exchange of commentary
6/1/2009 9:17:44 AM
would the company mind if you had an indoor basketball stand set up and got your work done.i know the culture dislikes things like that.
6/1/2009 10:58:12 AM
If you get to move around a bit, it's not that bad, but standing up all day in the same spot is pretty terrible.
