I searched and didn't see a topic in Old School for this, so here goes.

Effective June 3, I will be a resident of DC!

Welcome to the pit of snakes. A pit of snakes with plenty of great eats and numerous happy hours. Are you living in the city, living in Virginia, or going to the side of the beltway in Maryland?

Renting a room in a row house a block from the Columbia Heights metro station. Drove up and walked the area with my brother last week, and it looked pretty good.

My brother just finished his freshman year at George Washington, so he knew a little bit about the area.

I wanted to stay as close to the city as possible. I'm moving up for a new job, and part of the appeal was the chance to live in a city, which is something the girl and I wanted to try out for a little while.

You live in my neighborhood... I'm guessing you live on Park, Monroe, Kenyon, or Irving.

I'm about to move to Dupont, but Columbia Heights is awesome.

currently in Reston, but the lady lives on Logan Circle so I'm in DC most every weekend

can't wait to move into the city this winter, but the commute every morning will be a huge adjustment from my daily bike ride to and from work

Mirimar by chance? That's where I'm moving on the 19th.

Or maybe 1500 Mass?

Some complications arose, and I wasn't able to get up here until yesterday evening. But I'm finally here and getting settled.

You are correct -- I'm on Irving. I've been doing a bunch of walking around Columbia Heights last night and today, and it is indeed pretty awesome so far.

Miramar is just a couple blocks away, but she's on the Circle itself in an old house that's been converted into apartments

So I'm looking for a good deli/sandwich place. I've heard Vace, in Cleveland Park, is good...anyone ever been there? Do you have a favorite sandwich place?

I've done Potbelly, but that's not a deli sandwich. You know what I mean?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

No problem - BTW, 2 Metro trains collided on the red line. Multiple deaths reported already. I hope you're all okay.

Made it home OK. The collision was north of downtown, near Maryland. But they were reporting "major delays" due to "mechanical problems" in the metro stations.

Could have been much worse for sure.

Yeah, it definitely affected my commute home. Took almost twice as long as usual because I use red line and green/yellow lines.

Pretty crazy stuff. Very sad.

Where are you living? Feel free to PM if you don't want to post it all up in the public space here.

I'm living in Columbia Heights, working at 20th and M.

Close. I'm between DC and Baltimore along 29.

To get into the city, I would take the Red Line in from Glenmont

I too would take the redline in from Grosvenor-Strathmore, since I work in Bethesda.

Should we plan a get together for next week?

At least that's the safer end. When I heard where the accident happened, I was not surprised in the least. I used to hear the automatic safety system engage the brakes all the time on the above-ground stretch between Union and Forest Glen. It's also where I've most often had to wait because they were single tracking. Obviously there's some strong selection bias, in that that's the stretch I ride the most now, but I do have a lot of experience going in and out of Northern Virginia, and never experienced anything like the east side of the Red Line.

was in Arlington, VA for two years (archstone off of columbia pike near the air force monument) shuttled to Pentagon City countless times...

I worked at 20th & K St NW for 2 years I was there! went to washington deli pizza all the time...

i also biked into work some days, only 4.5 miles from Arlington to 20/K

now in Denver. I couldn't stand the fast-paced way of life where people put their job before their life. out here people have their priorities straight. good place to go out of college though, get's your career a big boost.

Oh nice. I'm not sure I can make it tonight, but that will be helpful for games that might not be on TV up here. Although, admittedly, I'm not sure how the TV deal will work here.

But either way, it's good to see a group exists for things like this.
