I have a ton of classic rock/classical/jazz (60s-80s) Records that I'd like to offload. Is there a record shop that will purchase such merchandise? Or will they trade for CDs or something?

The Crooked Beat on Glenwood, except they shut down 10 years ago.

Nice Price on Hillsborough St.Reader's Corner on Hillsborough St.Ed McKay on Capitalthough I'd recommend NP if there's a lot of jazz/classical because sandy knows a lot about that stuff and you are more likely to get a premium if it's good also, you can take anything they don't take at a store to mike spikel at the flea market and see what he'll give for it...he essentially buys bulk in these instances though, so it'll probably be .25 per record for all of them for him (something like that )]

Thanks for the leads.... I may check out Ed McKay... I've never been in there!
6/4/2009 3:39:50 PM
yea schoolkids probably wouldn't take most of them or give you a lotbut ed would be thrilled by "new" records. though you may also catch him at NP. oh wait, he isn't allowed in there anymore. poor ed

As much as I love Nice Price (I go basically every day), Ed McKay fucking rules, and finally feels right again. It never felt right in the strip mall farther down Capital, but it was perfect in the strip mall across the street, and now it feels homey again.Anyway, be careful. I always spend at least $15 on DVDs when I go there.

this thread reminds me i have like $20 of credit at edward mckay. and the dvds always suck me in, too.
6/4/2009 3:43:18 PM
I think I still have like $15 of credit there. Going onto a list of things I miss about Raleigh.
6/4/2009 3:43:54 PM
Good prices at Ed McKay are why I own a still-to-be-watched box set of Carnivale season one.$70 new, I paid $6. HOW COULD I REFUSE!?
6/4/2009 3:44:15 PM
I think theres a guy at the Mexican flea market up on Capital that buys/sells records
6/4/2009 3:51:05 PM
Bobs on Bleeker gives good prices on older records like Sergio Mendez and Al Jolson
6/4/2009 3:55:15 PM
i had a workshop to do at Ed McKay's one time, i had never been there beforenow i'm in love. in fact, i might get my ass up and go right this instant.

6/4/2009 4:03:53 PM
i'll buy them if you make a list of which ones you have.

^^ PMd
6/4/2009 4:35:14 PM

So if you took a box of old 60's-80's records to Ed McKay, would you likely get cash or store credit? I could use either one really... my wife reads like crazy. We have like 5 boxes of records, most of which we wouldn't mind getting rid of. We have to have like 500 or something, and if we would turn those into something useful... hooray.[Edited on June 4, 2009 at 4:47 PM. Reason : hooooray]

i'd like to look through your stash and maybe take a few off your hands!
6/4/2009 5:13:56 PM
They'll give you cash or credit, but you get less if you take cash.Alternatively, I will also look through anyone's records and paid a decent amount for any I want (~$2-3 each).
6/4/2009 5:15:19 PM
Any Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Steve Miller Band, etc. in this collection?
6/4/2009 5:32:11 PM
I'm not too sure, but I'll talk to the Misses, we'll go through and pull special stuff we wanna keep and we can let you guys come by and flip through them all. If you think about it, shoot me a PM if you're interested and I'll let you know when we do that and you can come through and flip through them before we take em over to EM's.
