Fail Goat
6/7/2009 11:27:14 AM
how the hell did it get there in the first place?
6/7/2009 11:28:01 AM
its a shop, i can tell from the pixels
6/7/2009 1:29:40 PM
that goat would be dead. has to be a shop.
6/7/2009 2:03:48 PM
that goat could be dead. give real a chance.
6/7/2009 2:06:25 PM
no, I mean like dead, charred, and possibly smoldering.Peep this for reference:http://nothingtoxic.com/media/1243471461/Shocking_Video_-_Indian_Man_Electrocuted_to_Death_on_Top_of_Train
6/7/2009 2:15:24 PM
the guy on the train was grounded. the goat is not.
6/7/2009 2:16:37 PM
I dunno, dude.
6/7/2009 2:18:11 PM
the goat is just at line potential. Check out videos on Youtube of people doing EHV work from helicopters for an illustration.
6/7/2009 2:19:49 PM
Maybe the same thing happened to the goat that happened to that moose on snopes..http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/poormoose.asp
6/7/2009 2:29:07 PM
Wow, I've never watched an electrocution video like that. The flashes around him are unreal.eleusis, is the "pop" "pop" the noise of the electricity exploding through him or is that from protection circuitry of nearby transformers kicking in?
6/7/2009 2:29:13 PM
slobbargoat?
6/7/2009 3:34:02 PM
OLD CROW WILL SAVE YOU

the popping noise is caused by the arcing of electricity causing the air to ionize, superheat, and expand faster than the speed of sound. After a fraction of a second, the line protective device disconnected and reconnected to see if the fault condition had cleared or not. Since the guy was still holding onto the line, the superheated air sound happened again, and the protective device locked open. That's why you see and hear two distinct faults before the guy finally falls off the line. When his hand came in contact with the line, the surge of current through his body forced the muscles in his hand to contract and grab the line. If the reclosing device hadn't operated, then the line would have stayed energized until it burned his arm off.

Makes since, the reason I was asking is because I've heard that noise from time to time in conjunction with power outages, but I guess in those instances it was still a short (just not through a human) and the bolt ionizing the air. You'd think an EE would know this, but I live in the low voltage world and have never really looked up what the popping sound was.
6/7/2009 4:18:25 PM
sometimes when you hear it during a power outage, you might be hearing a fuse blow that's protecting a transformer or small section of line.the worst accidents I've ever encountered have occurred on the low voltage side. Arc Flashes on 480V equipment can cause some horrific burns, and the expanding air can hit people with enough force to break ribs and cause internal bleeding.

that video is wild... also that recloser re-closed really fast...
6/7/2009 4:41:48 PM
I guess they can set them to operate a lot faster on electrified railway systems.
