Odell Lake. That brings back memories. I guess I'll just add a few that I played that haven't already been listed:

Martian Memorandum

Lemmings

Wolfenstein 3-D

Number Munchers

Logo

Oregon Trail

International Karate (C64)

Ghostbusters (C64)

Commander Keen

Hugo (something or other)

The Terminator (DOS) - way ahead of its time, or at least it's one of the first 3D games I remember complete with GTA style car jackings and everything.

And various Carmen Sandiego games.

I've played a lot of games already mentioned... Here's a few that have yet to be mentioned that I played:

Jazz the Jackrabbit I

Jazz the Jackrabbit II

Privateer I

Privateer I Righteous Fire

Privateer II

The Entire Wing Commander Series (I, II, III, IV, V) + Expansions

Wing Commander Armada

Scorched Earth

Age of Empires

Missle Command

Command and Conquer I (Tiberium Dawn) + Expansion

Command and Conquer Red Alert I + Expansions

Mario Is Missing

Pole Position

One Must Fall

There was this other game that I used to play that I enjoyed, maybe someone could help me find it. It was a racing game in the 90's that had pretty good graphics for the time. You had a car and raced around a dozen or so tracks (one of them being in Dubai iirc). You could buy health/repair your car as well as purchase missles for attacking (Light missles where white, medium missles were orange/yellow, and heavy missles were red), as well as deploying oil or mines for safety. Cool game.

I've spent hours trying to edit dosbox settings to get games like Privateer II to work, but in the end gave up because I couldn't. I am seriously thinking about buying an old PII or PIII and installing windows 95 and having at it with the old games

i have enjoyed this walk down memory lane.

in addition to the many here i also was a fan of the king's quest. Sierra could do no wrong in my eyes as a young man.

Megarace was another good one.

the highlights from here that were my favorites were

that terminator game. finally someone else who has played it. truly ahead of its time as stated.

police quest 3. so help me i played the ever living hell out of that game.

wing commander.

tie fighter/xwing

commander keen and hugo (looks like jbtilley also had the shareware catalogs)

Zork is on here, but Return to Zork isn't. (this was much more Myst like)

^2 I played Kings Quest, too!! How does it put things into perspective? Age differences?

The Sims I played in middle school, then the Sims 2 in HS... but Tomb Raider I played when I was just starting 6th grade I think... my stepdad taught me how to play it

When I was in elementary school one of my all-time favorites was Shivers, except I usually would let my sister play it and I would watch bc I was scared haha.

ZOMG IRSeriousCat. I love you (no homo). I've been searching for this game for a couple years now actually, and no one I know has ever played it. Thanks! Actually, I never played Megarace I, I played Megarace II

I read somewhere there is a megarace III. I must play it tonight.

"He crash-lands on a strange planet, seemingly inhabited by women only. He sets off in search of the vase and a way to get off the planet.

Decades ago, a vicious war between the sexes erupted on the planet. The males focused on developing mechanical and electronic weaponry, while the females focused on biological warfare. In the end, the females unleashed a biological weapon that eliminated the male population. However, at least one male survived the attack. Due to side effects caused by the biological weapon, the females were no longer able to give birth to males, so they had no way of continuing their species.

The populace of the planet is divided into two classes, Keepers and (breeding) Stock. The Keepers are technologically advanced and reside underground, where they monitor the Stock. The Stock reside above ground and have a primitive culture. Their only purpose is to be impregnated by a gender-bent Keeper in order to repopulate the planet.

How come nobody has even mentioned oldschool Ultima games? Ultima 5 and 6 were my favorite, followed by 7.

"I've spent hours trying to edit dosbox settings to get games like Privateer II to work"

There are a couple things you need to keep in mind:

1) You need a pretty fast computer to play the late 90s DOS games

2) Video setup/scaling algorithm or whatever makes a huge difference. Use the D-fend front end and set it to Direct Draw. I've had far better luck with that than any of the other scalars. I couldn't even get Jill of the Jungle to run right on some of those other ones.

3) all the memory settings are far easier in DOSbox than on an actual older computer. Do you remember that shit? Getting the conventional memory shit set up was horrible.

4) make sure your sound settings in DOSbox match what the configuration program in the game have been set to

^ wow. That reminded me of:

Ultimate Domain

Good game.

Thanks for the tips. I have a Pentium 2.8Ghz with 2Gb mem. Can't remember the video card. Either way it should be enough. Privateer II would just run wayyyyy too fast. Slowing it down to a tollerable speed would only make the game unstable and it would crash randomly. I need to give that D-fend front end stuff a shot. I don't recall that. It's been about a year since I've used Dosbox. Maybe it's worth giving it a shot again.

My dad setup the old school computers, so I don't remember how hard/horrible it was
