Two Students Diagnosed with H1N1 Influenza

NC State Student Health Services received confirmation this evening
that two NC State students have the novel H1N1 influenza virus. The
students are recovering and are in self-isolation at home. Both
individuals reside off campus in Wake County and there is no connection
between the cases.

The university has notified individuals who are enrolled in classes with
the students who were diagnosed with H1N1 influenza to monitor
themselves for flu symptoms"

Somebody who would rather us all be terrified of the evil flu which is going to destroy and zombify the whole world, instead of simply enjoying our weekend.

Also, somebody who just found out about it at midnight, or who was put on a non-disclosure timeline which was put into effect because the university didn't want word on this going out until they were absolutely sure both students had H1N1 and that there were no other infected on the campus that they know of.

I think the whole "zomg Jon and Kate plus 8 are having marriage problemzzz!!" fiasco was more entertaining to the media. It occurred roughly around that time I think.

I agree with you though, it'd seem that there are even more cases cropping up now of H1N1 than when this whole thing started.

The media just can't win can it? Had they not said anything until now you'd people would be all over them for being asleep at the wheel. I think their initial response was completely appropriate to let everyone know this thing is out there and to take necessary precautions.

Because people 'stopped' dying--i.e., it became obvious the mortality rate isn't really sky high (it's ~0.5%).

Shit SON !!!! Enough with this trivial HoneNone virus bullshit.
We need to watch out for this shit called the Influenza !

"Each flu season is unique, but it is estimated that, on average, approximately 5% to 20% of U.S. residents get the flu, and more than 200,000 persons are hospitalized for flu-related complications each year. About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu."

It's deadlier !!!

If student health were working on this they probably had to run a battery of pregnancy tests first.

This was followed by the doctor telling them that their symptoms don't look that bad and that they probably just want a note to excuse them from having missed class. Bitch I lost 9 lbs since I was here two days ago and I had to lay down on the sidewalk to rest a while on the walk here...

Student health is a joke. Their mental health folks just made me angrier and more depressed. They also completely forgot who I was in the span of about five days, though I met with them for more than an hour and discussed my issues/concerns. The joy of state-run health enterprises.

We should actively work to get the university to burn the student health building to the ground, to fire everybody that works there, and to then put a parking deck in that location with a special bus stop that will take students to Rex Hospital or Western Wake hospital (both of which have urgent care clinics near them) so we can get healthcare that doesn't consist of some moron that works for the state prejudging us as whiny spoiled college students that just want to skip class.

Exactly, more people die of the commone flu than all of these 'viruses of the month' combined. 45 people have died from this h1n1 pandemic. Any idea how many people die each year from masturbating? way more than 45.

1. the government needed a crisis to push nationalized health care
2. enter "H1N1"
3. ...
4. Profit? I think not.

And here I was thinking that the crisis was paying over 15% of gross pay for health insurance and still being one accident away from complete financial ruin.

I agree with you that the system is broken, but there is a better "fix"...

Oh, don't get me wrong. "Throw unlimited supply of money, print more when needed" doesn't really work for getting health care costs under control. If anything it just makes the costs go up-
