OK, so what is your take on the term "dating"? In my opinion, dating is less than being in a relationship. Dating is someone you see casually but are still free to see other people. In other words, if someone asked me if i was dating someone right now, my response would be: "No, I have a girlfriend".What is your take on this TWW?[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:23 PM. Reason : a]

dating and being in a relationship are synonymous in my bookbut that's just meIf i'm "dating" a chick, I'm not going to be going out with any other girls
6/13/2009 6:24:58 PM
i approve of the OP's definition[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:25 PM. Reason : bang]

yes
6/13/2009 6:25:44 PM
I'd say you can be dating multiple people. or just one, if you don't have other people. but usually it's not very serious
6/13/2009 6:25:58 PM
These are the two common definitions, and the discrepancy very often leads to drama.
6/13/2009 6:26:37 PM
I just think that being in a relationship is more than dating, but it seems that others have different opinions.
6/13/2009 6:27:05 PM
i look at it as being "in a relationship" = seriouswhile dating = fucking aroundif you happen to like the one you're fucking around with, it's time to step it up into a relationship[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:39 PM. Reason : that sounds better]

by the pure definition of the word, you are always in some sort of "relationship" with someone (hell- even me and yall have a relationship- we are people who talk to one another on the internet) it is to what level you want to define that relationship which determines where you stand on this issuei'm the kind of guy that if i'm "talking" to a girl, that is the initial stage, and that is open... as soon as we start "dating," that means I am no longer looking/pursuing other women, in the hopes that it turns into a deeper, more committed relationship[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:31 PM. So if you are with someone for like 10 years and not married, you would say that you have been dating that person for the past 10 years?

I would say "we've been together for 10 years" or something along those lines. To me, dating just sounds so informal. Because frankly, after that amount of time you are not JUST dating. Dating = the act of going out on a date. Long term relationships are way more than dinner and a movie.[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:37 PM. Reason : a]

i never use the word "dating" when describing a long-term relationship. to me, "dating" is still part of that getting to know you stage. if i'm in a serious relationship i would just say "i've been with this person for x years" or "we've been together for x years", i'd never say "dating" to describe something serious.
6/13/2009 6:39:32 PM
Oh hell yes, going out on dates is a HUGE part of a LTR. If you don't keep going out on dates, then it will fall apart quickly. My only point is that I value my relationship with my girlfriend much more than some broad i took out to dinner a few times, i.e. "dated".^ my thoughts exactly[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:41 PM. I think there are different definitions of "dating."In my opinion, if I'm "dating" someone...I'm exclusive to that person, but I don't feel bad if I'm still "looking around." I've been "dating" a girl, then asked another girl out. But I would always tell the first girl that I was going out on another date...which would usually end that relationship. But I feel like you can also have a serious girlfriend, and if someone asks about the two of you, you can always reply with, "yeah, we've been dating for about 8 months." So I think you can use the term "dating" when referring to your girlfriend. But if they are an actual significant other, then you shouldn't be looking around. But if its a more casual "dating", then you can still look around.
6/13/2009 6:58:42 PM
My definitions:If I'm interested in a girl and she appears to be interested in me, I label her as my "lady friend" and I usually tell people that we're "kinda hanging out"If we've been on more than one date and it involves romantic interaction, I consider it dating.I don't consider it a relationship or the girl to be my gf until it is official and we've talked about being exclusive.
6/13/2009 6:59:00 PM
dj, I guess the chick that you have been "dating" is getting old....so you are now dating others.....correct? Man, that chick you were/are "dating" sure did cost you a bundle....

dating does not necessarily mean in a relationship, but if someone asked you if you were dating someone you would say, "yes i have a girlfriend"dating can be casual or in a committed relationship, but dating and in a relationship are not exculsive terms
6/13/2009 7:38:57 PM
Dating implies that you regularly go out with one another, but you haven't yet committed to a relationship or exclusivity.

6/13/2009 7:40:11 PM
I still think that you should have at least a certain amount of courtesy for the person that you are dating. When my husband and I were dating, he ended up sleeping with and having this hot and heavy relationship with some TWW SKANK. It didn't last, but the asshole didn't even have the common sense to at least call/message/txt me to let me know that he was shacking up with her. He just went AWOL on me and I had to rudely find out by running into the two of them.
6/13/2009 7:55:06 PM
...go on
6/13/2009 7:57:03 PM
um... you know not many times do you hear someone say "when my husband and i were dating" and then follow it with a explanation of his sexcapades during the relationship.
