"First 'anti-stab' knife to go on sale in Britain

The first “anti-stab” knife is to go on sale in Britain, designed to work as normal in the kitchen but to be ineffective as a weapon.

The knife has a rounded edge instead of a point and will snag on clothing and skin to make it more difficult to stab someone.

It was invented by industrial designer John Cornock, who was inspired by a documentary in which doctors advocated banning traditional knives.

Mr Cornock, 42, from Swindon, said that the knife will cut vegetables, but will make it almost impossible to stab someone to death and will reduce the risk of accidental injuries.

He said: “It can never be a totally safe knife, but the idea is you can’t inflict a fatal wound. Nobody could just grab one out of the kitchen drawer and kill someone.”

The knife is expected to sell for around £40-50 and has been tested with “very favourable” results by the Home Office’s Design and Technology Alliance - set up to research products that can deter crime."

Now, if they'll simply outlaw the slitting of throats, this could work.

The anti-stab lobby discovers a flaw in their logic:

I didn't notice that the British government has anything to do with this.

^^ I figure with the UK sword ban, it's just a matter of time.

Quote :
"Kenny MacAskill MSP, justice spokesman for the SNP, said: 'We must continue to recognise that knives are as much of a cultural problem in our communities as they are a criminal one.

'We must ensure we tackle the causes as well as the symptoms of this scar on our communities.'

Margaret Mitchell, justice spokeswoman for the Scottish Conservatives , said: 'I broadly welcome these moves but legislation alone is never going to be enough.

'We have to make sure that anyone who would use any kind of knife or weapon feels the full force of the law and the strongest possible custodial sentence.'"

i bet it would be really tough to sharpen it to a point, or just snap the blunt tip of it off

or use it as a slashing/cutting weapon

or use some other pointy object

or another type of weapon entirely

or find yourself a normal knife...

Better get this guy to sell them.

Buy now and get two anti-stab knives for £39.99 plus shipping. That's a £80 value for only £39.99. Just pay shipping on the free anti-stab knife.

Britain sure is damned silly.

When there was an article a while back about the police in London or somesuch putting on a display of knives confiscated from "criminals" in an effort to make the consequences of "knife crime" more well-known, the picture consisted of what looked like a bunch of dirty kitchen knives (maybe 10-18 or so) that were surrounded by an absolute SEA of photographers that were going batshit crazy to take some photo of a pile of shitty knives.

What an assbackwards view on crime.

They could probably make it a bit more safer by removing the metal part and just leave the handle.

Wouldn't cut very well, but people could sleep better at night.

I find it hard to get upset or worked-up over a guy trying to make a buck on Britain's knife-crime issues.

In fact, I find it hard to get upset or worked-up over any of the UK's weapon laws. Their constitution (such as it is) doesn't refer to a right to bear arms. If their people want to legislate their weapons out of existence, that's their concern. Frankly, I don't think it's very wise to hand over the people's ultimate, albeit weak, counter to autocratic governments. But if I spent all my time getting in a tizzy about Europeans doing things I think are stupid, I wouldn't have any time left to drink and write papers at the last minute.

You bolded this, presumably to emphasize how stupid it is, but I see no problem with the concept. If people use weapons illegally, they should get the hammer dropped on them. Seems reasonable enough -- in fact, seems more reasonable than the usual European line of thinking, "OMF TAKE AWAY ALL THE WEAPONS SOMEONE MIGHT GET HURT."

It's just amazing to me that it sounds like Great Britain is a state that seems to be legislated by a large group of paranoid mothers from Cary.

this is retarded.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened eventually in our country.

"What's your problem? Do you want people to get stabbed!!?? Regulating knives will improve the health and welfare of everyone!!! Don't ask me for evidence, I mean its just common sense right????"

This would never, EVER happen in America. We give our children swiss army knives when they become boy scouts, and sell super-sweet knife sets 24/7 on cable TV. Also, we have West Virginia.

^ 20 years ago, I'm sure most people would say the same thing about banning public smoking in North Carolina. Things change. And the biggest thing I see changing is that more people are willing to accept the role of state and federal governments as "Nanny-in-Chief".

^^^ That's true, but bear in mind what I said about this line of thinking being akin to that of a bunch of paranoid sheltered suburbanite mothers.

Everything is dangerous to them, and they're constantly planning and working to get everything in the known universe banned "for the children."

Soon they'll try to ban plastic bottled drinks because not only is it certain that they HAVE to have BPA and everybody KNOWS that BPA makes your willy turn blue and causes girls to be bitchy on their periods, but it ALSO is the #0 source for all jenkem vessels used in the united states by the children.
