Making meth in your kitchen doesn't count as pharmacy school.

good luck - it's a long few years but the payout is good - just don't work at a 24/7 place and you'll be fine - as the new kid you'll work the worst shifts for a long time

try to get in with a pharmacy inside of a grocery store - that way when ppl do drive-through they won't ask you to go get you their shampoo and candy (idiots do this all the time)

hmmm... I see Dr Lubbers doing clinical work in a hospital - I don't think pharmacy students know whether or not they'll be retail pharmacists going into school.

the pay is a lot less on that side i thought and it's an extra year commitment - she's already starting later than most so i wouldn't imagine she'd take an extra year on top of that

My friend is looking at a 6-figure salary coming right out of UMD Baltimore pharmacy school - working at the Georgetown Hospital... clinical pharmacist, consulting with doctors to make sure patients are getting correct and efficient doses... and paperwork.

I don't know about the extra year thing... I also don't think Joie is starting late.

Whatever, my main point is there is plenty pharmacy students do after school that have nothing to do with retail pharmacies - many of these jobs pay a LOT of money.

technically Joie is starting late compared to other people, but she wasn't sure pharmacy was what she wanted to do. she's also glad she got her undergraduate degrees.

My understanding is that the folks on the inpatient side generally do a 1-2 year residency following school. Don't know if that's required or just an option.

For retail pharmacists, yeah, six figures right out of school with a multi-year contract is pretty standard these days.

Just a point of reference, a PharmD is not a PhD. You cannot teach or do most forms of research with it, being a practitioner's degree.

Yes you can. You can do research and teach in your field...same as a PhD.

Same thing with MDs. The vast majority of my teachers in med school were "just" MDs, and they did research as well.

no kidding. im friends with a few pharmacists and its insane. def dont work at a 24 hour type place. if you can get through the classes the rest is gravy and from the sound of your background you'll be fine

also be prepared to answer a lot of crazy questions and deal with people accidently finding out their spouse is either on ED meds (and isnt sexing their wife) or an STD med is accidently given to an unknowing spouse for their other half

pharmacy friends have great stories

Someone better snap you up with the quickness before you start bringing in those pharmacist paychecks. You're not going to be one of those girls who spends like $120k on education and then decides you'd rather just take care of some babies are you?
