I got to the (first?) battle with the Stay Puft man and I had had enough. One of the reviews I read put it perfectly, without the license, this game wouldn't be worth playing. As it is, it's pretty neat to "become" a Ghostbuster, if only to remember what it's like to be a kid again.

Has anyone tried this online yet? I'm currently fighting the SPMM where he climbs the building.

I met one of the character animators for this. He says they all play Team Fortress 2 during their free/down time.

Good enough game, especially if you're a fan of the series. Probably a rental if not.

Just got done beating Stay Puft, and I'm pleased to say it's a bit harder than I expected. Unfortunately, much of this difficulty simply comes from the inherent problems in trying to maneuver a ghost in a 3D environment into the trap with limited depth control, but it's still nice too see when I was expecting a fairly easymode romp or a luigi's-mansion-esque lamefest.

It seems like it would be much better playing it on a 360 controller than with a mouse/keyboard... mostly because it doesn't seem like they really tweaked the minor little gameplay details to make using mouse controls intuitive. I've tried it with auto-aim on and off, and either way it felt awkward due to the odd sensitivity variations... almost as though it doesn't respond well to the speed/forcefulness of mouse movement as it would with the degree to which a 360 control stick is off-center. Then again this is really a minor thing that most people probably wouldn't even notice, thanks to my absurdly picky design analysis that I can't help but do with every game I play.

All in all...
if you're a fan of the series:
Buy the PC version (it's only $30!!!)
or play it first and decide if you want to buy or rent the console version.

if you're not a big fan:
Rent it.

[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 10:57 PM. Reason : also, the character designs and animations of the GB team look great. Other characters not so much.]

So... I said it seemed unexpectedly hard...

Turns out, that's only because the proton stream you are stuck with at the start of the game is total garbage. Once you unlock the other weapons and various upgrades things get easier. But they also get more fun, because there's actual variety in the gameplay instead of just zap stream -> throw trap -> wait for fucking ever for the ghost to fall into the trap.

In light of this new evidence, I will almost definitely replay it (or at least parts of it) on highest difficulty.

(TRIPLE POST SUSPEND!!! ...this was supposed to go in an edit of my last post but I just missed the 30 minute deadline)

Additional Pretentious Game Reviewer/Design Critic Stuff (read at your own discretion):

So far I've been impressed by the very-well-done destructible environments. I really haven't seen better quality in that area in a game before, with the possible exception of Force Unleashed, and I've seen very few games with a better object physics engine (Source engine games are about the only thing that beats it).

The allied AI is incredible as well. There's never failures in target detection, they keep friendly fire to a minimum and manage to stay out of your line of fire fairly well, too. They revive fallen teammates on their own, use the right weapons at the right times, and overall simply aren't complete garbage. In fact, the allied AI performs so well that the developers quite obviously chose to make them do far less damage than the player so that they don't steal all the kills. They even sprint when I sprint so they don't get left behind. The only thing that I can fault them on is dodging (though the ghostbusters, player included, don't move very fast, so there's only so much better they can get in this regard).

The absolute most impressive factor, though, it that the game runs very clean and is staggeringly NOT BUGGY AT ALL (well, very nearly... all I've seen are very minor clipping issues, and nothing whatsoever that affects gameplay)... that's something I have never seen before in my life on a not-yet-patched PC game.

I'll revise my initial opinions... if you can stick it out past the first hour or two of gameplay (until you get weapons and upgrades that don't suck), this is a GREAT game. Speaking purely from the standpoint of game design, I would call it one of the best I have ever seen. Speaking purely as an uninformed player of the game, I can say that it is very good, and I have fun playing it. I'd call it a definite BUY for anyone... PC anyway... if you're low on spending money you may want to just rent or borrow the console version. Still a must-play.

I could spend more my time pointing out tiny details I've seen to degrade that assessment, but I doubt any of you want to read that, and besides that, said details really aren't even problems... just minor choices that I think could be improved upon slightly, most of them just coming down to a difference of opinion with the developers.

(Additionally: I need to get that whole "start a blog so you can rant about game design and art as a medium of entertainment, and review all sorts of shit, and hopefully get picked up by some website that would pay you money to do it" idea that I had a while back. Somehow TWW's entertainment board doesn't seem like the best place to be writing extensive game design/review segments.)

I ended up picking the game up, fighting the librarian now.

This game is pretty awesome.

Im not that great at FPS, so I have a little trouble with the aiming and I tend to get lost a lot, but I love how long the fights are, and how they come one right after the other.

Its pretty dang fun.

I can't decide if I want the Wii or the PC version. I prefer the cartoon visual style over the uncanny-valley look. The game is the same regardless of the visuals though right?

I was planning on buying it and damn if my XBox didn't red ring of death for the second time. It's on it's way back to M$ to be repaired. I played it at the store and got to the Sedgewick hotel scene. I love how close to the movie it is. It's really hard to fight the urge not to destroy everything in the room with slimer

Don't fight the urge, just demolish the room.

Lol, I had forgotten how ridiculous/hilarious that video is.

The star cameos for no reason are pretty classic.
