Friends and I are hosting an assassin game in Raleigh. Assassins is a game where each player has a target and the object of the game is to eliminate your target by getting them wet with a water gun or water balloon. Once you have eliminated your target, you receive your kill's target as your new goal. Players are eliminated until only a single player remains.

The entire game is managed through http://raleighwars.com which is where you can sign up and post kills. Each assassin playing will receive an assassin code which must be kept secret. When you kill a target, your target reveals to you their assassin code, and this code may be posted to the http://raleighwars.com site to receive your next target.

Here are the game specifics:

Start date/time: June 26th at midnight
End date/time: July 17th at midnight
Length: 3 weeks
Ordinance: water guns and water balloons
Cost (mainly for the assassins ball): $10

The game finishes at the assassins ball, a shindig on Friday July 17th, which all assassins are invited to. Here is what the assassins ball was like last year: https://raleighwars.com/?q=node/9.

Happy Hunting!

This was somewhat difficult when everyone lived in the same building. I can't imagine what it would be like if my target lived in north Raleigh.

The allowed zip code range does not include North Raleigh.

GOTCHA!

"Paranoia is the only way you'll survive."

Gotcha! is a game of hunter and prey, a game where paranoia and ruthlessness are

the keys to survival. It requires constant alertness, because you'll never stop

playing. You will stalk and be stalked, kill and be killed, all for points on a

crummy killboard. You'll never sit with your back to the door. You'll never go

to class the same way twice. You'll spin around corners and roll past doorways.

Your life will change while this game is running. Maybe you'll never trust your

friends again. Your room will house an arsenal, weapons squirreled away in each

and every nook and cranny. Enjoy the last few moments of safety before deciding

that you want to play, 'cause this is Gotcha!, chummer, and you're already dead.

BACKGROUND

No one agrees on where Gotcha! came from. Some theorize that it originated in

the hallowed halls of academia, that students of olde invented it to escape the

stress of schoolwork. Others take credit for it, claiming that they had played

it for years in their own hometowns. Think about it, though: You already know

how to play.

Gotcha! is a game about the basis of humanity. When primitive man wandered past

the mouth of his cave, his only concern was killing shit before it killed him.

Gotcha! allows you to get back to those prehistoric roots and get in touch with

the violent, carnivorous ape you know you really are deep inside. You will be

rewarded for killing and surviving, but at what cost? At a dear, dear cost in-

deed. You will come to know fear as it first was long, long ago.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

Gotcha! is played with water guns. To get a successful kill, all you have to do

is hit your target before he hits you. In years past, many people have employed

water balloons and buckets to take out several people at once. This will not be

allowed, for it violates the spirit of Gotcha!. These rules allow the use of

water guns ONLY.

1. Weapons are designated as follows: semi-automatics (single shot) and full

automatics (constant stream).

2. Semis may be shot until they are out of water, while full autos must be

pumped up COMPLETELY when they have fully discharged. This is to simulate

reloading and give semis a chance.

3. No respraying guns FOR ANY REASON. If your weapon of choice is too realistic

according to an admin, you will be asked to trade weapons.

Other than these simple rules, go buck wild. Super soakers, converted fire ex-

tinguishers, you name it. If it forces water using a pump or pressure and then

directs it in any way, it's legal.

HONOR AMONG KILLERS (RULES)

1. No kills in a library, classroom, or dorm room. These places are considered

holy ground. Violators will lose ALL POINTS. Yes, all points accumulated

since THE DAWN OF TIME.

2. Assassins must be contracted through an admin. Only one assassin is active

per week, and the contract will be posted so all participants are aware.

Assassins' kills are worth 1/2 of the target's value to the contractor.

Assassins must know the rules and wear a red hat (or other approved marker)

within 20 feet of the target. Killed assassins decrease the contractor's

point total by the 1/2 value of the target.

3. Parties calling a truce cannot shoot each other for the duration of the truce

(which cannot last more than a day) plus 10 minutes before and after the

truce times.

4. No kills in uniform. This is not a shield rule, and includes work uniforms

before work.

Submit your kills to an admin with your name, your victim's name, and the exact

time of death so that points may be calculated correctly. Disputed kills will

be resolved by an admin if necessary.

New players must present themselves to an admin for confirmation with the re-

commendation of a present player. No proxies.

Players can be removed from the board at any time for any reason, though they

will be warned beforehand. If you are removed, you lose all points.

Admins will try to be prompt in updating the board when a kill is submitted.

ICQ is the most effective way of getting in contact with an admin, though drop-

ping a note under the door works fine.

Keep it within reason. Don't do anything to alarm anyone not involved in the

game. Sometimes it isn't obvious that it's a game, you know. The admins claim

no liability for your actions or their consequences. Discretion should be the

S.O.P. (standard operating procedure).

POINT VALUE SYSTEM

The ongoing game is divided up by weeks. The value of a kill is determined by

what round it was made in. This is why the exact T.O.D. (time of death) is im-

portant.

The first round lasts from the beginning of the week until half the roster has

been killed. Each kill in the first round is worth one point.

The second round lasts from the end of the first round until half the remaining

roster has been killed (i.e. a quarter of the full roster is still alive). Each

kill made in the second round is worth two points.

The third round lasts from the end of the second round until half the remaining

roster has been killed (i.e. an eighth of the full roster is still alive). Each

kill made in the third round is worth three points.

The final round begins when there are only two players left. The Final Kill is

worth four points.

CONTACT INFO

The only admin currently is the ONE. You can reach him by a text file in his

upload folder (\\One\uploads).

CONCLUSION

Gotcha! is not a game for people who don't like getting wet. Most of the fun

comes from messy kills, which means the victim gets SOAKED. If you don't like

the idea of being in danger of getting wet at any given second, don't play. If,

however, that sort of thing turns you on, let us know.

The ball is the best part because all players get to laugh about crazy stakeouts, failed attempts, deceit, sweet kills, etc... Also the winner is named there which is pretty sweet.

He/she was caught in their socks and assassinated, that's how sneaky the R is.

Yes, and awards will be handed out. It's not a formal affair if that is what you are concerned about.

I would equate this more to a Live Action Video Game and even though I like the term because it is an oxymoron it doesn't have the same ring to it.

There is nothing wrong with a little LARPing

Definitely automatic DQ and a potential ass beating depending on who your target was.

Has anyone actually started one of these? I wouldn't know where to begin.

More to the matter, how do you go about recruiting strangers? I have a group of friends I could probably get into it, but that would probably only get about 10-15 people max and we all know/hang out with each other so all it would take would be one time going to dinner with these folks and it would just turn into a giant water fight and be over in a few days.

Also, most of us work on an Army base that has pretty tight security. I don't know what their policy on water guns is but from what I understand, they have been pretty jumpy since 9/11, so we'd have to limit it completely to being outside of work. That is do-able though.

Use TWW Also Facebook/MySpace works well.

I have found that friends and friends of friends are usually all you need to have a pretty good game. Last time we played with between 30 and 40 people and it was entirely friends and friends of friends. It lasted three weeks and there were still around five people alive for the Assassin's Ball.

Last time I did attempt passing out fliers at local events but it didn't work that well. I'll probably try again with better fliers this time. I haven't tried posting fliers on Hillsborough Street yet but I imagine something like that would work pretty well and would facilitate diversity.

Just have a rule where hits at work are not allowed. As a game master you have the ability to eliminate players who break rules (or otherwise).

That's true, if you want to manage it yourself.

However, if you want to have the assignment and kill submission logic taken care of for you (plus diverse game types and the ability to switch between them during game play, statistics, etc.) then it would be prudent to use our service.

You really want to call/email a large group of people individually in order to let them know that their assignment(s) or the game type has changed?

Trust me, it's easier this way.
