yah. My wife voted for her and she has quickly changed her mind about Bev. I think what particularly peeved her off was that Purdue skipped a trip to the Western part of the state to celebrate the founding of the great smoky mountain national park.

It sounds like a small thing, but Raleigh is notorious for ignoring the interests of every person west of Hickory when it ain't election year. This is just one more symbolic snub, adding insult to injury (the real injury being that our area is woefully underrepresented in terms of funding).

And to put it in perspective, the Governor of Tenn found time to come to the event, even though he had much more distance to travel.

The fact that Bev has been pushing major spending cuts on NCSU, signed that idiotic smoking ban, etc has not helped opinion of her either.

^ Yeah, I'm just saying. I mean, low 30s this early is pretty bad.

In related news, there really is next to no news about Perdue's low poll numbers. Yeah, the local and regional media are on this like the Easleys and the Edwards' stories. . .oh, wait. We'll probably hear about this from the media as soon as Perdue's out of office.

I think the cut in teachers pay is fueling this also. Most NC citizens dont know what else shes doing, all they know is that teachers families are about to lose money.

^ Right--and look here:

Perdue's plan to save teachers' jobs creating a stir

Quote :
"The North Carolina House passed a budget last weekend that raises state taxes by a total of $780 million. Now, Perdue reportedly wants to nearly double that tax hike to $1.5 billion."

This is where having a well crafted stimulus package would come in handy. Rather than spending $7 billion supplying rural communities with broadband internet 2 years from now, we could have used that money to aid states now so they wouldn't have to impose tax increases or spending cuts (both of which work to counteract any immediate stimulus the bill does provide today).

Well she does owe the Teachers Assn. big-time.

Quote :
"Dallas Woodhouse: The spending and tax plans presented by Gov. Perdue and Senate Democrats would repeat the pattern with up to $1 per pack more for cigarettes, a 280 percent increase in taxes on other kinds of tobacco, higher taxes on beer and alcohol, higher and more complicated income taxes, higher taxes for businesses, and a new six-percent sales tax on everything I do online, plus home repairs, car repairs, extended warranties, or even a haircut.

For those of us who do not itemize deductions for our federal tax returns, we will now have to go through that effort for our state taxes so we can claim tax credits or end up paying more. Those of us who do itemize will have to do another round of calculations to determine our state tax credits in addition to our federal deductions. Isn't the purpose of tax reform to make the process easier?"

More like West of Greensboro. McCrory lost the election not just b.c the republican parties were on an out "year". Gov. candidates from western NC including Mecklenburg county espicially are always the underdog in state politics. My 81 yr old grandma said if Jesus Christ himself were running for governor he would lose the election just b.c he was from [insert Western NC city here]

Fuck Perdue

The only reason Perdue won was the pull from eastern NC conservative democrats and northerns as well as minorities pulling the "democrat lever" at the poll booth.

I've never had a high opinion of Sugar Dumplin' and never will. I'm just glad others are starting to see this.

I didn't realize being a social libertarian wasn't taking libertarian positions, my b.

In reality, however, I could not bring myself to vote for McCroy, despite my complete and utter hatred of Sugar Dumplin' and I sure as hell wasn't going to vote for Bevcakes. So that left me Munger.

I can't believe she skipped the debates and still won.

My only reasoning is that she was boosted by all the first time voters coming to the polls to vote for Obama, who were told to vote straight ticket.

I don't think anyone will ever get my "pragmatic politics" ideology. I kinda wanted to vote McCrory but he just didn't resonate with me and didn't really motivate me. I really thought Munger knew what the fuck was going on in the economy and I really liked some of his ideas. And now that the Libertarian Party is permanently on the ballot, I feel like it wasn't a wasted vote.

I haven't met or heard of a single person (other than those directly related to her campaign, obviously) who falls into both of these categories:

- People who voted for Bev Perdue
- People who knew who Bev Perdue was before the election

I voted McCroy....
I'm ashamed to admit it was a completely emotional decision, kind of like those surveys that flash pictures of two people and say "quick decision - who will you vote for", and inevitably, the taller, or more handsome or prettier or whatever candidate wins.

But I watched McCroy and Perdue in one of the local debates, and holy.... shit..... what a cunt. no way I could support her. I reviewed McCroy's positions, and they weren't completely offensive to my sensibilities, so I went with him.

I woulda voted Munger but i did not want an idealistic vote to soften the closest competition to keep Cunt Perdue out of office.

I really do not understand how she won. Where were all the git er dun' conservative welfare hating card toting republicans that NC as a southern state should have lining up the polls.

well, I think she was one of the adverse side-effects of the large democratic turnout for Obama who knew nothing about here, but just voted straight ticket or just looked for the D.

The "get er dun conservatives" were either outnumbered by the "hope and change" liberals, or they stayed at home because they didn't like McCain and wanted to sit out, and they either didn't care or didn't know about the state elections.

This does not sound very "libertarian" to me.

The point of many regressive taxes is to make working poor and working class folks "chip in" for the gov't services that they whine about needing at some point in life.
Many of these services being provided to people who would otherwise be able to afford them if they executed spending priorities correctly
and were financially responsible.

You do realize that not every single individual can be middle class, right? It's like the 80% of people who think they are above average.

It's simply too idealistic to expect everyone to be in a class that isn't working poor. We're not talking about the animal kingdom here where the strong survives, though, given your racists rants, I'm sure you'd be all for eugenics.

I voted for Munger. I actually didn't like him or the two mainstream candidates. I just wanted to get the libertarian party to x% votes (forget what the actual # is), allowing them to participate in debates with the big parties at the next election. This would force the big-party candidates to actually address the issues raised by the Libertarian candidates.

Sadly, Munger didn't get near the amount of votes needed for that.

This is 100% correct. Thats the reason why I support removing the D and R labels and straight ticket possibilities. It prevents uninformed voters from making uninformed decisions.

I've posted on here rants about how putting D's and R's on ballots essentially guarantees that these two political parties remain in control.

Removing those letters will just make voters even less informed, maybe even stifle voter turnout.
