Any suggestions on the best way to convert some analog music to mp3 formant. I have a bunch of old cassette tapes of songs I wrote on an 8 track recorder years ago and need a program that will convert them. Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

does the tape player have an 1/8" audio-out port? Do you already have a cable to plug into your microphone input?

output to the line in and use something to record as a wave file (even winamp does that). Then use something like dbpoweramp or any number of programs to convert to mp3 after using something liketo split tracks. Hell, audacity can do all of that.

i'd def use a proper audio interface and not a shitty computer sound card. PC sound cards are noisy as hell. I'm pretty sure you're into music and stuff, so maybe you already have one.

If not, you can get a cheap USB interface that will work for $50. You wouldn't need mic preamps, just a 2 channel (for stereo) line/instrument input.

And if you don't want to go that route, use your PC's LINE input, not the MIC input. the Mic input has preamp that you don't need for a line input and it'll make it even noisier.

they're all 24bit/192khz

all adequate for what you're trying to do, although i'd personally go with the emu interface

or, get this:

and you can use the sort-of-stripped-down-but-still-pretty-damn-fuctional m-audio version of pro tools
