After you get through the first 10-15 levels and the novelty of "I can do anything" starts to wear off, the complete lack of precision and horrible physics starts to kick in and this game becomes an exercise in frustration.

A for idea. D for execution.

So, there are levels? What do you do each level? Do you have to solve a puzzle or something?

Yeah. Each level is like, do a task, or get a star or whatever. The level that particularly frustrated the shit out of me was a level where there's a plank of wood laid across a pit (with barracuda filled water at the bottom). The star is hanging from a rope off the bottom of the plank. So I figure I'd just tie another rope to the side of the plank and pull it up. The guy's not strong enough. Fair enough. So I decide I'll tie the rope to a truck and see if I can't pull it out that way. It took me 10 attempts to tie the rope to the plank and truck at the same time. If you so much as let the rope touch the plank of wood before you tied it on, the shitty physics make the plank fall into the water. If you tie the rope to the truck first the rope dangles down and touched the plank and it falls in the water. if you accidentally walk on the plank (which given the shitty controls, you will do at least 5 times) it moves the plank and falls into the water. Finally after being frustrated for 10 mintues or so, I managed to get the rope tied to the truck and the wood at the same time, at which point the plank fell into the water and pulled the truck into the hole. It's just mind-numbingly frustrating and it really drains all the fun out of playing what should be a truly amazing game.

So apparently beating all the levels for world 1 isn't enough to send you to world 2. No, you have to beat all the levels 4 FUCKING TIMES. Talk about artificially increasing the play time of your game.

So I'm running through the levels again for the 2nd-4th times. One of the levels is to get a cat off the roof. So I conjure up a dog and put it on the roof which makes the cat scared and it runs off the roof to the girl. Success! When you win a level a star appears and you have to collect it. Except for on this level the star appears above the cats head. AND THEN FALLS ON THE CAT AND KILLS IT. Which takes your victory away from you. That's like finishing a level in mario by jumping to the top of the flagpole only to slide down and break your spine.

I'll bet you $1000 that I
a) make more money than you do.
b) have spent more money than you on video games in the past year.

Stop acting like you know me bitch. Just because I'm in here "bragging" about having a game before it's in the stores (which I wasn't btw) doesn't mean I don't pay for things that deserve my money. I'm just glad I played this game before it hit the stores so I know to save my money. Because this game doesn't deserve it.

Because honestly if this was just "some game" I really wouldn't care. But I've been looking forward this ths game for months now. And it really has the potential to be so awesome. but the execution of it is just horrible. I keep playing it because I keep hoping it will get better. but so far, it's just getting worse the more I play.

so you're saying I should reward shitty games with my money?

I'm glad you like throwing away your cash. Me? not so much.

I'm sure this game will still be a bestseller based on hype alone and many people will buy it before the reviews come out. And actually, the reviews will probably not be so horrible due to the hype as well.

I just hope the inevitable sequel fixes most of the problems. Then I'll gladly hand them over my $30.

See that's how things should work. They make a product worthy of my money, and THEN I give it to them. Not the other way around.

Yeah, the controls aren't the best, but I'm still getting a kick out of playing this game (bought it at Toys R Us with that gift certificate special they were running yesterday). The dog to chase the cat off the roof annoyed me, but I thought the cat died from the fall or something.

My favorite moments so far: using a black hole to "clean up" the litter problem in the park, using a bear to take care of the bee and piranha problem, and failing the Halloween level when the vampire I summoned to scare off the kids turned them into the living dead.

oh, it's also racist http://kotaku.com/5361276/racial-term-in-ds-scribblenauts

i love that game developers are saying it made it in there because it's a spanish term for an ingredient in an ecuadorian dish

I agree in the same vein that if "lawn jockey" were Spanish for "rainbow" or some shit, they still should've known better and left it out.

Nevertheless, I don't think it's breaking news to say that a bunch of programmers were unaware of certain social contexts. "Sambo" is spanish for fig leaf gourd. It's also, obviously, a racial slur. AWWW HERE IT GO.

Seriously. Think of all the guys you know that are CSC majors. Do you think any of those retards would catch this?

But yes, "ollars" is fucking retarded.

I think "ollars" is cute!

I also think that if this game's controls are giving you trouble, you may as well just end your useless life immediately, as all the temporal rewards of this life are beyond your crippled grasp.

Yeah, it's not immediately obvious that you need to click on the grayed out levels and purchase them in order to move on. Once I figured it out, I came back here to post the correction, but that's when the personal attacks on me started and I got sidetracked.

I realize you like to be as dramatic as humanly possible for comedic effect, but that's simply a very incorrect and overreaching statement to make. Especially without giving any sort of examples for why you think the controls are adequate. The controls are not as good as they could be. They are imprecise at best and often result in unexpected behavior resulting in death and the need to restart the level. There's simply no way you can dispute this (but I'd love to see you try). Many of the items you conjure are 8x8 pixels and pretty hard to click on. It appears that certain items like a fish need to be clicked on in certain locations in order to be interacted with. I can't tell you how many times I accidentally missed clicking on something, clicked on the wrong part of an oddly shaped item, or was simply dragging something across the screen when the game decided that I didn't need to be dragging it anymore and instead needed to be walking to that location.

There's no way to tell the game when you want to jump and when you want to push an item. There's one level where you can push a boulder off a cliff. But every time you approach the boulder, you jump over it. It is eventually possible to get the boulder off the cliff, but the effort required to do it can no longer be called pushing, rather it's more like repeatedly drop kicking the boulder and hoping that the uninspired physics engine will grant you a small amount of movement with this particular interaction.

And what is the deal with the camera control? Sure, you can move it anywhere on screen, but if you try to keep it in one place for more than 2 seconds it moves back to the guy. There's simply no reason for this to occur. It's maddening for no reason whatsoever.

And all of this could have been fixed by simply allowing the pad to control the character and putting a "move camera" icon on the screen that lets you drag the camera to where ever you want it when that mode is activated. You want him to jump, hit the up button and he jump. Want him to push that boulder, all it takes is a press of the left arrow and there he goes. You don't have to worry about him moving unless you want him to.

Every review I've read for this game talks about how imprecise and frustrating the controls are, and how it would have been far better suited with (even an optional) control pad setup. My guess is either you haven't played the game enough for the controls to give you any issues, or your post was a not-so-subtle troll designed to get a response such as this out of me. I honestly suspect the latter, and if so, gg and all that noise.

See, I knew it: You're playing a puzzle game like a platformer. It's about playstyle, not controls. There is no reason for Maxwell to push a boulder himself. You summon bulldozers for that kind of thing.

I admit that at one point, I had some trouble selecting the end of a chain, which led Maxwell to jump cheerfully into some magma. That's definitely been the exception, though. You really should re-calibrate your touchscreen.

Except for to use less items and get a better score. And really who are you (or anyone else) to decide how I choose to play the game? The limits of this game are supposed to be my imagination, not the lack of proper controls. Yes, maybe I'm the most uninventive person alive, and the only way that my minuscule mind can think of to get a boulder off a cliff is to push it with my own two hands, but shouldn't that at least be an option?
