(white) People will bitch and moan about having to borrow money to put their kids through college and the debt they will incur rather than send them to A&T where they could get a full scholarship because its a black school and black people go there.

you know, i've always heard about the "full-ride white scholarships" from schools like A&T and NCCU...do you have any evidence to this fact? maybe i'll go get my law degree from NCCU if it's free

Maybe they just don't want an education that is that sub-par.

^I know at NCCU, the undergrad white scholarship is close to full tuition. Of course, tuition is only 1800 including all fees, and the scholarship is like $1000/semester.

^^Those are true because a buddy of mine who was going to go to state for engineering took the white full ride. My mother was also a minority counselor at A&T for a while. This means she was the guidance counselor for white people and asians. Not sure about law, tho

The education is no more sub-par than ECU would be. So I agree with the OP because I imagine that most parents would take a free ride to ECU if offered.

^^That's just not true. ECU is bad. But I doubt you have been inside the nightmare that is an NCCU/A&T classroom (at least undergrads, I have no experience with Law or grad schools).

I feel the same way - I've only heard about it, never heard of any real cases.

However, I know white people who went to NCCU undergrad and NCCU law on merit scholarships.

North Carolina Central University

Quote :
"•Tennessee State University is so down in its minority—white—population that the State is now funding “scholarships for Caucasian Tennessee residents.” These scholarships are rooted to the recent outcome of a lengthy court case known as the Geier case that has called over the last two decades for desegregation of Tennessee’s “dual educational” system of which TSU was a part. Long range plans for the desegregation have included assuring a balanced student body. During the mid-1980s the agreement put in motion a new system of other-race recruitment: black recruiters for white colleges and white recruiters for black. To those ends the Geier called for stepped up scholarships and financial aid to boost the process. In late 2006, the Geier case was finally dismissed on the grounds that the State had in fact effectively undone its dual system, thanks to the urgings of the Geier case over the years. The scholarships for whites cover room and board for eligible candidates.

•Diversity Scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate white students are a special program of Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University. The goal is to boost enrollment of those underrepresented in the school: whites and Native Americans, specifically at ASU and “Caucasians” at Alabama A&M. In fact as the result of a discrimination case, a federal court judge in 1995 commanded both ASU and Alabama A&M University to vigorously diversify.1 The court case raised scrutiny over the fact that both schools had almost exclusive black student bodies and had been remiss in recruiting “other-race” students, especially whites. Since then large chunks of money have been earmarked each year to attract white students. Initially GPA requirements were set at 2.0, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, so low as to offend black students required to comply with a GPA minimum of 2.7. Since then, in response to threats of legal repercussions, the universities have raised GPA reqs for whites. Scholarships may cover full or partial tuition.

•Jackson State University in Mississippi has a student body composition of over 6,000 African Americans and about 200 Caucasians.2 The university’s Diversity Scholarships are restricted to Caucasian applicants. Mississippi, like Alabama, has had to scramble to rollout diversity scholarships at its public HBCUs, following a landmark segregation case. Under terms of the settlement the state’s public HBCUs are required to bring levels of “non-black” students to 10 percent of their student body at which time they will receive critical funding to bring their programs up to speed with the other public universities in the state, the initial crux of the legal fight. In response JSU, along with Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley have all ramped up recruitment of their biggest minorities—whites. It’s not that they want to, but they now have a monetary carrot dangled before them.

•Diversity Scholarships through Alcorn State University in Mississippi are given to “non-black” applicants. Full and partial scholarships are awarded and candidates must have at least a 3.0 GPA to qualify.

•Mississippi Valley State University offers undergraduate and graduate Diversity Scholarships. Grad scholarships may cover a full tuition while the undergrad version awards $700. Applicants for both must be “non-black.”"

^^^^You are most definitely talking out of your ass at this point. I have been to A&T undergrad class room. I took Diff Eq at A&T over the summer following my freshman year. Not to mention the anecdotal experience I have had with my mother being the counselor and friend who went there.

Have you ever attended a class at A&T? Let alone A&T and NCCU? My guess verges on the negative.

personally i don't care if you're a bigot or not and if you simply don't want your child around 'darkies'.

just don't complain to me about the high cost of education when you have a reasonable alternative. hell, go to one of those schools for two years and get a scholarship some place else after you aced them because 'they're so easy that black kids could do them'.

people will often bite their nose to spite their face.

Your guess is wrong. I have an undergrad degree from NCCU (2nd degree, took 60 credits and spent 2 years there). The place is a zoo. And I've never encountered so many incompetent professors. This was in the business department primarily. I had all my DiffEq's and other math at State, so I never took any classes in the math or science departments. Surely they couldn't be as bad.

There were fights at least once a week. Profs had no control, and rarely knew what they were talking about. Imagine a Durham public high school or middle school with the same maturity level while only increasing the size and ghettoness of its students, and there you have most of NCCU.

I am not exaggerating to say that there were more than a dozen students I knew who graduated while still being borderline illiterate. Yes, I mean that. They could not read beyond a 2nd grade level.

For the rest of my life, when someone asks: so I see you have second college degree?

My answer: Not really. NCCU doesn't deserve to be called a college. But I do have a certificate to verify my 2 years of suffering there.

To add on to the academic excellence I saw....

On my first group project at NCCU, thank heavens I decided to be the editor of our final paper. Each person would do a 5-10 page section, and I would compile them all to help make the transition seamless.

One guy in the group handed me a 5-page PARAGRAPH. Seriously. One paragraph for his intro, body and conclusion. Another included internet language and abbreviations. None of them cited sources, nor even seemed to have any.

For every project after that, after getting in a group, I would announce at our first meeting: "I am an A student. I will do every aspect of this project from beginning to end, and none of you have to worry about a thing. Just let me know what part of the paper you want to be under your name for credit. Periodically, I will email you all a copy of what 'you' have written, so if the Prof asks how it's coming, you can tell him." I did this for at least one project per semester. It was my only possible method of quality control.

Every student was treated like a child, and perhaps rightly so. We played every classroom game you ever had in elementary school. We played Jeopardy in teams with course material to review for tests. In some classes, one student would be chosen to lecture on the topic for that day, so the professor didn't have to do anything. You can imagine how unhelpful each lecture was, and the prof never bothered to set it right.

Most classes began with the prof asking each student to share why he/she came to college and what their goals were. 90+% of the answers involved the words "barber shop," "nail salon," "prison," or the music industry.

I am SOOOO thankful I got out of there at the end of the Democratic Primary. I can only imagine what it would have been like after it.

My favorite story: A particularly stupid Finance professor of mine had a completely wrong answer in his key. I got it right on the test, and he, of course, counted it wrong. So, I went and asked why I got it wrong, how is solution was right, etc. And he was lost.

Then I went online, found a review sheet from U.Penn. that had the EXACT same problem, with different numbers, and they used my method for a solution, specifically citing his method as wrong.

After showing this to him, not only would he not concede, he threatened to expel me for 'racist harrassment.' See, evidently I was insulting the school and saying that "White math is better than black math." I am not kidding.

I almost considered legal or school action against him. But then I realized his bosses were just as ignorant as he was, and I would lose soundly.

I was so anxious to leave, I didn't go to my own graduation. When someone asked if I had my cap and gown and all that ready, I told her I wasn't going. She asked why. I had kept my mouth shut on campus about the quality of the institution (mainly for physical fear of pissing anyone off), and I finally let myself say something. "Why would I go? I haven't accomplished anything worth celebrating, and neither has anyone else here."

I can give you name and office phone number, if you would like to call him yourself, and ask if he had a punk white student a few years ago who thought he was wrong on a test question. You better have a lot of time on your hands, because he'll rant on me as long as you'll listen. Or pretend to be an employer checking references, to see what he says about me.
