Some friends and I are going to Cancun next year and I need help selecting a resort. I prefer Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which offers the following Cancun properties:

Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa

Cancun is too cliche. Go to one of the other riviera towns. Unless of course you're trying to still do the cliche party like you're in college sorta thing, in which case Cancun is probably the place for you.

^Le Meridien is probably my first choice. I saw it on the Travel Channel's "Top 10 Mexican Resorts" when it was ranked as #1 back in 2008. We looked into it when we were planning the honeymoon but it was not all-inclusive so we passed.

Cancun was beautiful when we went last year, which is why we want to go again. But I'd be willing to go to another equally tropical location, if the price is right. Mayan Riviera is supposed to be nice, but I'm pretty sure the prices are way higher.

riviera maya is awesome. we went on an office trip 2 years ago. it's definitely not the human rat infested shit hole that is cancun. if it costs more it's worth it. we stayed at aventura spa palace. you HAVE to go on an ecotour thing. i highly recommend a zipline tour with swimming in the cenotes. we used http://www.alltournative.com

I'm not doing the club thing. I plan to hang out at the resort pool, snorkel and visit the ruins. That's about it!

But the rooms for the resorts I mentioned will range from $29-$89 per night and airfare is REALLY cheap from Orlando ($50-$89 one-way, not including fees), so that's a huge factor in my decision to go to Cancun.

i just got back from a bachelor party there. we stayed at the Hotetur.

flight + 4 nights all inclusive for $550 per person. would do again in a heartbeat

Cancun is closer to the airport than other resorts and also has cheaper prices for activities such as snorkeling and trips to the ruins. I wouldn't let the slightly higher percentage of college kids in Cancun one month out of the year alter my decision on where to go.

We stayed at Crown Paradise a few years ago.

I had a good time, but I have no idea how it compares to any other of the other places. Free trays of beer delivered by room service was awesome, though.

Read in the paper today that some of the resorts in Cancun will give you a free trip a year for three years if you contract swine flu within 14 days of your stay there

I stayed at Aventura Spa for my honeymoon and loved it. I would recommend the Riviera Maya as well, it is a great place to stay instead of Cancun. I really liked Aventura Spa since it's an only 18 and older spa I believe. Nice to not have any kids around all the time.
