went there one evening to get some drinks, ended up getting a couple apps, beer price is standard but appetizers were real cheap i think they were on special like if you buy a beer apps are like $2 or something. Bar looks cool, comfy and nice, waitress was new and retarded but actually i liked it. Check it out

the wall of tv's is cool b/c you can sit in one of the lounge chairs and get served right there.

they had good food when we went. both food & drinks were a little pricier than your typical bar, but then again it's on glenwood south. i was pleasantly surprised by the food.

the main thing is that it's made to watch tv so if you go during a game, don't expect to be able to hear yourself think or be able to talk to anyone across the table from you.

I'm going to have to check this place out when I move... That could be a damn good after work spot on a Friday afternoon.

Menu doesn't seem to be expensive AT ALL... I mean it's not East Village, but it's not Sullivans either. Maybe I'm skewed living somewhere that is absurdly expensive for so long though...

is there a section where you can watch a game but still hear your friends, do they have speaker boxes for the tvs or just one game on sound?

From the pictures, looks like a bit older (young professionals) crowd than the college age... but that is fine for a happy hour place. I mean that happy hour menu is pretty $$$

^^depends on the game, if it is not a big local game they leave the sound off and play music a fair amount of the time. During Canes games they would switch to music during intermissions

hoity toity like its has lends itself more towards the typical glenwood crowd (i.e. red room, bogarts, etc.)

...at least when I was there

the food is actually pretty good when I've been up there, there is definitely some uppity people, but I think it is a pretty balanced crowd.

yeah, I didnt mean anything derogatory by the "hoity-toity" line, I just feel like most of the bars on glenwood are going for that look. they want young professionals instead of the college crowd riff-raff

Any bar owner who wants to turn a profit would operate the same way

Mature people with disposable income vs broke juvenile's looking to get drunk and fight

hmm, tough decision

it has typical Glenwood South prices, where you're going to pay like $3.50 for a Bud Light. I mean, that's not awful, but when I'm watching a game I like going somewhere cheaper.

The food is pretty good though

The happy hour menu is pretty sweet, just have to order a drink to get the special. I've had a lot of things on the menu and all of it was good. I've never thought the food was really expensive.

A lot of the items they cook are purchased locally at the farmer's market (around 60%). There are no freezers in the back, just a big walk-in cooler. There's also a lot of North Carolina beers on tap. That, and the sports atmosphere - that's what they're going for with Tobacco Road, not smoking.

Before the place opened, they took a poll on their website to determine whether to allow smoking or not. The majority said no, and now that the law is about to change, it works out that they won't have to change anything. You can still smoke outside on the patio though.

The following Tobacco Road happy hour menu is available Monday thru Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a $2.50 minimum drink order. One item per person. Dine in only.

$1.95
Chopped Salad
Tobacco Road Nachos
Jumbo Black Eyed Pea Cakes
Grilled Hot Dog
Fresh Salsa

$2.95
Wolfpack Wings
East Carolina BBQ Sandwich
Half Pound Burger
Southwest Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Mac & Cheese

So you have to order the chips and the salsa separately? And how many wings do they give you for $3?

The nachos are pretty great. The salsa is too. I want to say it's 9 or 10 wings, but I'm not sure.

Menu sounds enticing. Maybe I'll sneak out of the office a little early one day and lay some rubber on I-40 to get over there in time.

BTW, the Borough has half-price apps from 4-7 on weekdays and, is not hoity-toity, and is not full of douchebags. Giant hushpuppies for $2 FTW.

And you can smoke.
