http://tobaccoroadsportscafe.com/about/index.htmlOnly been by it in the AM, so I havent seen the crowd but it looks like they have walls made of TVs. Anyone ever been there and is it any good?
6/26/2009 11:47:21 AM
yesa little on the hoity-toity sidefood and drinks seem expensiveplace gets crowded
6/26/2009 11:48:36 AM
it's non-smoking
6/26/2009 11:48:45 AM
went there one evening to get some drinks, ended up getting a couple apps, beer price is standard but appetizers were real cheap i think they were on special like if you buy a beer apps are like $2 or something. Bar looks cool, comfy and nice, waitress was new and retarded but actually i liked it. Check it out
6/26/2009 11:49:03 AM
the wall of tv's is cool b/c you can sit in one of the lounge chairs and get served right there.they had good food when we went. both food & drinks were a little pricier than your typical bar, but then again it's on glenwood south. i was pleasantly surprised by the food.the main thing is that it's made to watch tv so if you go during a game, don't expect to be able to hear yourself think or be able to talk to anyone across the table from you.

Good beer selection last time I was in there

http://tobaccoroadsportscafe.com/about/specials.htmlI'm going to have to check this place out when I move... That could be a damn good after work spot on a Friday afternoon.Menu doesn't seem to be expensive AT ALL... I mean it's not East Village, but it's not Sullivans either. Maybe I'm skewed living somewhere that is absurdly expensive for so long though...[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 11:55 AM. Reason : x]

^^^lol, yah.it's like Duke University's campus being tobacco free.... TOBACCO FUCKING BUILT YOUR CAMPUS YOU INCONSIDERATE PRICKS. [Edited on June 26, 2009 at 11:55 AM. Reason : ^^]
6/26/2009 11:54:50 AM
6/26/2009 11:54:59 AM
it's a cool place to go for a couple of drinks, but i wouldn't hang out there all night or for a whole game
6/26/2009 11:55:15 AM
is there a section where you can watch a game but still hear your friends, do they have speaker boxes for the tvs or just one game on sound?
6/26/2009 11:55:17 AM
From the pictures, looks like a bit older (young professionals) crowd than the college age... but that is fine for a happy hour place. I mean that happy hour menu is pretty $$$[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 11:57 AM. Reason : x]
6/26/2009 11:57:09 AM
^^depends on the game, if it is not a big local game they leave the sound off and play music a fair amount of the time. During Canes games they would switch to music during intermissions[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 11:58 AM. Reason : i]
6/26/2009 11:57:32 AM
4-6 happy hours menus are gay5-7 ftwbut looks like a decent place, ill check it out sometime when i'm up
6/26/2009 11:59:34 AM
hoity toity like its has lends itself more towards the typical glenwood crowd (i.e. red room, bogarts, etc.)...at least when I was there
6/26/2009 11:59:52 AM
I've been called hoity toityits not a bad thing
6/26/2009 12:01:35 PM
oh sweet - another thread where kids bitch about glenwood south...neatoooo
6/26/2009 12:01:44 PM
im not bitching about it.
6/26/2009 12:03:43 PM
the food is actually pretty good when I've been up there, there is definitely some uppity people, but I think it is a pretty balanced crowd.
6/26/2009 12:04:04 PM
Yeah, I don't really see where people are bitching about it?I think DROD's comment was pretty innocent really...
6/26/2009 12:04:23 PM
I'm a fan.
6/26/2009 12:07:51 PM
yeah, I didnt mean anything derogatory by the "hoity-toity" line, I just feel like most of the bars on glenwood are going for that look. they want young professionals instead of the college crowd riff-raff
6/26/2009 12:10:26 PM
Any bar owner who wants to turn a profit would operate the same wayMature people with disposable income vs broke juvenile's looking to get drunk and fight hmm, tough decision[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 12:17 PM. Reason : x]
6/26/2009 12:17:06 PM
its cool i see what DROD was saying. i think im gonna try this out on a week night some time this week
6/26/2009 12:21:29 PM
it has typical Glenwood South prices, where you're going to pay like $3.50 for a Bud Light. I mean, that's not awful, but when I'm watching a game I like going somewhere cheaper. The food is pretty good though
6/26/2009 12:30:12 PM
I haven't checked it out yet, maybe I'll wait till you return in 2 months Bryan, lol.
6/26/2009 12:31:51 PM
i got some giant corndog with some vegetables that went well with my beer, filled me up, and wasn't expensive. i thought the prices were pretty fair.
6/26/2009 12:37:16 PM
the buffalo chicken sammich is dank.
6/26/2009 12:38:10 PM
6/26/2009 12:42:44 PM
perhaps they hide weed in the chicken.
6/26/2009 12:43:48 PM
The happy hour menu is pretty sweet, just have to order a drink to get the special. I've had a lot of things on the menu and all of it was good. I've never thought the food was really expensive.A lot of the items they cook are purchased locally at the farmer's market (around 60%). There are no freezers in the back, just a big walk-in cooler. There's also a lot of North Carolina beers on tap. That, and the sports atmosphere - that's what they're going for with Tobacco Road, not smoking. Before the place opened, they took a poll on their website to determine whether to allow smoking or not. The majority said no, and now that the law is about to change, it works out that they won't have to change anything. You can still smoke outside on the patio though.
6/26/2009 12:44:19 PM
The following Tobacco Road happy hour menu is available Monday thru Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a $2.50 minimum drink order. One item per person. And how many wings do they give you for $3?
6/26/2009 12:47:11 PM
damn thats pretty cool about the menu. i dont see how money is made, i guess beer sale take care of it.
6/26/2009 12:51:37 PM
^^
6/26/2009 12:57:09 PM
I'd like to check it out, but there's a creepy guy who works there so I refuse to go in
6/26/2009 1:06:18 PM

6/26/2009 1:22:19 PM
haha, that's not the first time I've heard somebody say that about him. He does a pretty good job though.
6/26/2009 1:31:00 PM
all nachos pale in comparison to the times' pork nachos
6/26/2009 1:35:11 PM
6/26/2009 1:40:27 PM
that's what you get for having a lame day job
6/26/2009 1:41:06 PM
agreed (though that's the majority of people)I want a job that's more on my own hours, and preferably from home
6/26/2009 1:41:50 PM
i want a job that pays me for surviving each day.and hoity toity is exactly how i would describe this place. unless you go with your own large group of friends
6/26/2009 1:43:05 PM
it was a pretty decent sized portion of nachos that we got, same w/chips adn salsa. Def worth the 2-3 bucks
6/26/2009 1:44:44 PM
^^ food was good though. probably good place for a nice dinner and drink before heading somewhere else
6/26/2009 1:48:16 PM
Menu sounds enticing. Maybe I'll sneak out of the office a little early one day and lay some rubber on I-40 to get over there in time.
6/26/2009 1:50:27 PM
BTW, the Borough has half-price apps from 4-7 on weekdays and, is not hoity-toity, and is not full of douchebags. Giant hushpuppies for $2 FTW.And you can smoke.
