6/27/2009 5:01:23 PM
In the 9 years that I've lived in Raleigh, I've never thought of Glenwood South as being downtown. Downtown to me is well. . .DOWNTOWN. :-P
6/27/2009 5:02:11 PM
uptown? midtown? http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/about/downtown-districts^ downtown is capital to convention center? [Edited on June 27, 2009 at 5:05 PM. Reason : global cooling ]
6/27/2009 5:02:54 PM

6/27/2009 5:04:25 PM
It is part of downtown.
6/27/2009 5:05:09 PM

6/27/2009 5:05:38 PM
Who uses maps anywayDowntown is an entirely distinct entity from glenwood southGuess it all depends on your geographic resolution though. I might let it slide if you're coming from apex or something[Edited on June 27, 2009 at 5:08 PM. Reason : Damn ipod]
6/27/2009 5:06:06 PM
an expert on raleigh is one thing i don't ever wanna be
6/27/2009 5:09:33 PM
glenwood is most certainly a part of downtown. while its role of a compartment of downtown has become increasingly blurred due to the rebirth of fayetteville street and the increasing availability of bars and businesses in that area glenwood remains an active portion of the downtown area. six forks/wake forrest is midtown and we'll see more growth out there in the next 5 years which will make this distinction all the more clear.uptown is, well, the centralized areas of north raleigh.the people who don't consider glenwood south downtown often reach that conclusion because they hardly go to the outer larger areas of raleigh and as a result of the smaller view of the city what is considered downtown to them is proportionally smaller.[Edited on June 27, 2009 at 5:11 PM. Reason : engrish]

^^ agreed, and like I said people coming from a Greater Raleigh perspective will include it as downtown, but when I hear some girl at Jackpot tell me she's going downtown, I'm not gonna assume she means anything on Glenwood.
6/27/2009 5:15:32 PM
Downtown for bar/entertainment purposes is Person to West and Seaboard to Memorial Auditorium
6/27/2009 5:19:57 PM
i think it is downtown and i think i would consider it part of downtownhowever, i don't go to glenwood south so when i say i'm going downtown that is definitely not what i mean. and if i do go anywhere, i usually just say the place i'm going.
6/27/2009 5:21:02 PM
I would consider it part of downtown..but I don't come to raleigh that much anymore...wish I was going to the rockford though before I leave tomorrow
6/27/2009 5:25:26 PM
i think i will go to the rockford for dinneremployee discount FTW
6/27/2009 5:28:16 PM
It's part of downtown but if I was going there I would never say I was going downtown. I'd definitely say something like, "I'm gonna hit up Glenwood tonight," or something.
6/27/2009 5:29:13 PM
jealous I'll be at the raleigh convention center..(yay for open bar at a reception!)
6/27/2009 5:35:49 PM
i was at the raleigh convention center this morning hanging out with all the old heads at Antiques Roadshow
6/27/2009 5:44:54 PM

6/27/2009 6:05:51 PM
6/27/2009 6:07:30 PM
6/27/2009 6:13:25 PM
yes glenwood south is downtowni can't think of why it wouldn't be, unless the reason is that the "just south of the capitol" area doesn't have any other name until they rename it "hatemville" at which point i'm sure y'all gonna be breaking out the flip charts and laser pointer to make some more unnecessary distinctions
6/27/2009 6:56:51 PM
greg is gonna buy everything from the pit to sittiand open a slightly different variety of restaurant in every slot
6/27/2009 9:27:05 PM
i strongly dislike the pit.
6/27/2009 9:28:05 PM
http://www.visitraleigh.com/pdf/dtmap.pdfThis is what visitraleigh.com considers "downtown" FWIW.Yes. Glenwood South is downtown.
6/27/2009 10:00:07 PM
If I was going to refer to a party area as "downtown" I would say Moore Square is downtown since they often have festivals in the square and there are multiple bars in the area. That and Fayetteville Street are the closest party areas to the skyline.
6/27/2009 10:12:56 PM
of course its downtown... Raleigh's downtown is way too small to think of it as being anywhere else.street pattern, development pattern etc. its downtown
6/27/2009 10:22:09 PM
Yes, it is downtown. This isn't New York, people. It takes about 4 minutes to get from Raleigh Times to Glenwood South by foot.
