By definition are made for guys who are not able to make friends the old fashion way by earning people's loyalty through trust. So they just pay for them. Ask TKE they know what I'm talking about.

I was in a Fraternity and I still don't have friends. Does this mean I'm the anti-cool?

okay this looks like a good thread for me to ask something that's been bothering me for a while.

what good does it do to carve your frat into a bathroom stall?

I'm just trying to help the freshmen out. Believe me, they can use all the wisdom they can. Paying to have friends it not the way to go.

the whole "paying for friends" is kind of short sighted. you're paying for social events and food and stuff like that. you could technically not hang out with anyone in your fraternity and still go to parties and functions and what not and still get what you paid for.

while i was staunchly against fraternities during college I later realized that you're also paying for a network of connections that can't really otherwise be surpassed.

sure there is the life by your own bootstraps and make it on your own esteem philosophies of how life should play out, but thats a fantasy land and fraternities are a microcosm of the real world.

sad, but true.

Shit son, ur too poor to know this. .

yeah you get what you paid for... friends for rent or hire, a social network and functions.

sounds like a rationalization to me.

i also don't consider it them paying for their friends as much as I once did. the high price makes it an exclusionary club. thats part of the premium as well. most people who join fraternities were friends to begin with.

i dont think a lot of people understand what the money goes to.

but in the grand scheme of things it's not an outrageous sum.

3k!?....in some places, maybe Delta Sig but i wouldn't know. But ours was never 3k even during financial straits

usually people who trash fraternities are self-centered punks who think they are "too cool for school" and who think all their opinions about life should be law. Yeah some fraternities are sketch, but you aren't "paying for friends". You meet lots of people through fraternity involvement, and develop connections with people which pay off big time down the road.

Regardless if this is troll bait, its still an ongoing discussion amongst college kids, and is just a difference of preferences. If you don't want to join a fraternity, then don't, but quit acting like you are better than everyone else who does.

TWW is a nerd fraternity that you pay 5 bucks to get in, you don;t ever have to see anyone face-to-face, and when you do, you can clam up and just look dorky

does not compute.

and actually, the way you described it makes it sound like you meet people who may not even turn out to be your friends.

yeah it'll cost your dignity when your a pleab right?

Trollbait? it's not enough if they pay $3K, you have to take their dignity too... by hazing them because why? Because you want to express you're better than the ones that are trying to get in, and! it pays off how in the long run? it pays off knowing you were party of something exclusive to those with financial class (notice how I separated people with class, and then people with financial class?) Aren't fraternities the first ones looked at by authorities when someone starts talking about shoving broomsticks up other guys asses?

What you have there is a Navy ship and a lot of forced sodomy is running amok.
