That was truly horrible. Almost Ultimate Warrior like levels of no-sell.

Not making someone's move look damaging or in any way effective.

in pro wrestling when a guy intentionally doesnt react to moves the opponent is doing or doesnt react properly

if its unintentional its a "botch"

hes also mocking him

he was hittin him hard as shit in the back of the neck, i wonder what the hell was goin on with these guys before the match

Things to know about this match:

Antonio Inoki was the owner and promoter of NJPW at the time of this match.

In addition to his pro wrestling training, Inoki also had training in catch wrestling, which is similar to modern MMA.

Lesson to be learned:

Don't fuck with the boss, especially when he can kick your ass at a moment's notice.

Essentially everything until he throws the axhandles on Inoki is a no-sell. Everything until about 2:45 you can probably argue is "monster heel" psychology, but the dropkick is a total no-sell and it escalates from there.

If you want to see the opposite, here's overselling:

hahaha

I know overselling and botching well.

botchamania ftw

I just wasn't sure if they were doing the Big Show-esque OMG YOU CAN'T DO SHIT TO THIS LARGE MAN thing and when it stopped being that.

this is one of my favorite single moments of the year so far

for some context, this was a last man standing match, where you can only lose by being down for a count of ten. This match was super long iirc, and Edge and Cena were running all around the arena, in concession areas and shit, and it ended with this. It was like OH SHIT SPEAR OFF THE STAGE? no. OH SHIT ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT OFF THE STAGE? no. WTFFFFF

ya.

apparently tonight he beat The Miz in like 3 minutes. after a month+ of buildup.

ugggghhhhhhh.

I imagine it involved some bouncing off of ropes and a five finger shuffle. mayyyyybe an attitude adjustment if he's feeling spontaneous.

I was gonna say that it looked to me like it was a sell of a no-sell and that it was still all fake but then this thread got all it's still real to me, dammit! and I decided I'd rather just distance myself from it.

The fact that the Great Antonio is motionless and covered in blood coupled with the referee's confusion should tell you that it's not a work.

You can see remorse almost surface on the face of Inoki. Then it just sorta morphs into pity as he watches what is probably a friend of his struggle to breathe, but the show must go on ect.

I bet they got roaring drunk that night and Inoki and him cried for like 2hrs, then the next day it was like nothing happened

I can't watch that shit. Can you give me a fucking time I can fast forward to so I can just see this no sell and avoid the accelerated decaying of brain matter from watching that shit. Fuck, give me some paint and let me watch that dry, infinitely more entertaining.

Bloody head, confused ref? That's certainly never happened in a wrestling ring before.

Seriously though, wikipedia says it was real, and I've got no reason to really say otherwise, so I'm wrong here.

You don't bleed like that when you blade.

But let's give it up for modlin, who is so above scripted entertainment that he has never watched television, visited a cinema, or sat in the audience at a play.
