http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/28/nyregion/28day.html?_r=1Investigators seized more than 10 pounds of marijuana and about $100,000 in cash on Saturday from the basement of a Brooklyn day care center that was the scene of a police shooting and an attempted robbery a day earlier, officials said.Day Care Center Intruder Shot (June 27, 2009)Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said the money and drugs appeared to have been what the robbers were after when they burst into Special Moments Daycare in East Flatbush on Friday afternoon — while a dozen or so children were napping.Three men were arrested at the scene, including a suspect who was shot by the police.“It now appears the day care center was a drug haven, or where drugs in significant quantities were kept, primarily marijuana,” Mr. Kelly said on Saturday at a ball field in Brooklyn where the Police Department’s soccer team was playing. “Marijuana was located at the scene, along with at least $100,000 in cash. It appears to be what the robbers were looking for.”Mr. Kelly added that none of the children were injured in the episode that took place at 12:21 p.m. on Friday — much of which was captured on four surveillance cameras in the day care center, at 711 East 52nd Street.Police officers who responded to a 911 call of an attempted robbery at the center shot one of the men when he pointed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol at them, officials said. The police identified the suspect as Gavin Nugent, 32, of Brooklyn. He was hit in the torso and wrist and taken to Kings County Hospital Center. He was later charged with burglary, robbery and weapons possession, the police said. Two other men, Dwayne Jackson, 35, and Carl Grierson, 39, were also arrested and faced similar charges, the police said.On Friday, detectives were looking into whether the holdup was an inside job and the robbers knew that it was the center’s payday. But as they received more information from one of the suspects, they went back to the house with a search warrant and discovered the drugs and money in a basement closet, which had not been seen by the officers who responded initially, the police said. The discovery led the police to arrest Donna Rogers, 37, who they said was the operator of the day care center, and her husband, Sherwin Rogers, 36. Both were charged with possession of marijuana.

1) I doubt the kids had access to any weed or guns.2) Legalize weed, and cannabis retailers wouldn't have to hide it.
