I'm taking this guy from out of the country to get a social security card for his stay tomorrow morning. Anyone know how long this usually takes?

When I got married I went with my then wife to the Social Security Office to get her name changed. We were there for the better part of the day. It's a miserable experience, almost as bad as sitting at the unemployment office.

How annoying/long/inefficient is it, on a scale of 1 to 10:1 being you handing a dude money and him immediately handing you what you wantand10 being how long it takes for a case to move through the US justice system

I'd say it's a solid 8, and that's assuming you have all the shit you actually need to get it done. And if I remember correctly, they don't just hand you the card right then and there. I think you have to come back for it a couple days later.

Isn't it kind of dangerous to send a social security card through the mail?
6/30/2009 7:49:53 PM
haha don't ask me, ask the doofus people who said they'd mail itbesides, they're mailing driver's licenses now too]
6/30/2009 7:51:33 PM
yeah, but you can't get a credit card with a driver's license.

eh, i didn't think about it like that at the time. i'm sure they have their reasons.
