Ok, I tried looking for it under its various names, but only a lame topic from 3 years ago came up. I'm talking about the fast that people go on from 7-10 days and drink nothing but a combination of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, maple syrup and water- subsisting on 500 calories/day and makes people stupid and lethargic. I can't fathom why this is appealing to the otherwise college educated, intelligent women I know in my town- at least 7 or 8 of them have undergone this in recent months and crowed non-stop about it. Fwiw, it's really hard to make sense of them after 1 week of no solid food-some have either fallen asleep, stared off into space or been otherwise really annoying when I try to explain sewing or bike fixing to them. And when they do come off the fast, they binge eat like there's no tomorrow. Why can't people just eat right and exercise? Is this just Eating Disorders, Part II, popping up in the mid to late 20s?How many brain cells does this kill?

^^ that is very much true. Certainly as with things like depression and eating disorders etc. there are people who say they are for attention or people who adopt the traits purposely for attention as well as people who truthfully suffer. But to me, the kind of thing the OP posted about seems like an attention grabber is all. However, for the people that actually suffer from true anorexia, bulemia, etc. It is not simply a "choice" and something that is easily changed. It is very much a psychological problem and is certainly not a lazy substitute for eating right and exercise. In fact, many/most of the people with anorexia will eat very healthy foods for the little bit they eat, and many of them also exercise (often excessively).I am no expert, but my fiancee (who I have dated since HS and I have known since middle school), has diagnosed anorexia, and as a result I have obviously studied it and witnessed it enough first hand to believe 100% that true eating disorders are a mental problem.[Edited on July 1, 2009 at 9:21 AM. when I saw that title all I could think of was 'BILLY MAYS HERE WITH MASTER CLEANSE! A GREAT NEW PRODUCT TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST!'

my roommate did thisit's incredibly stupid and harmful to your body, though i said what i had to say about that when she started and then left it alonein her defense, she was only weird and lethargic for the first three days or sodunno if she just ran on adrenaline or convinced herself she felt fine or whatit had no positive effects i ever heard about, though

the point of the master cleanse is to detoxify the body from all the toxins and crap people ingest in processed foods. it is not to lose weight, although obviously not eating anything for a week may make you lose weight. i have NOT tried this, but i have done detox programs involving only eating steamed/roasted veggies, fresh fruits, grains, and lean protein and i could tell a huge improvement in my energy levels, mood, and overall i just felt better (i suffer from acid reflux, and i didn't have heartburn once while on this plan). the master cleanse, juice detox, or solid detox diets aren't going to help you out much if you use them to try to lose weight quickly and then eat like shit once you are off them again. Any detox plan will have you feeling tired or moody for the first few days because you will be consuming less calories than usual, but this usually wears off after the 3rd day or so (in my experience).

lulz @ 'detox' programs/dietsyour liver and such do quite a good job 'detoxing' yourself all the time.all these 'changes' you experience while on these diets/plans are merely the result of actually CHANGING your diet to begin with....
7/1/2009 2:00:34 PM
^^^ yeah, sorry to hear you've bought into the whole "detox" business. Fortunately, it looks like the "detox plan" you chose was actually just "eat healthy shit", and not some stupid plan or concoction that cost you extra money. There is no such thing as detoxing. Eating fast-food and heavily processed food will make you fat and lethargic, but not because it is "leaving toxins" in your body - it's simply because those foods are high in fat and low in nutrients. Changing to a healthy, low fat diet will obviously make you feel better, but again, not because of any supposed detoxification that it is doing to your body.

BTTI considered trying this for a while, not to lose weight, but it's supposed to clear out a ton of toxins and waste that has built up in your body for years. The only deterrent is I would have to cut back my exercise regiment for 10 days, and I really don't feel like I want to do that.

All you have to do is down a bottle of magnesium citrate

I wish I had 10 days to devote to something like this. How the fuck does anyone do a diet like that and maintain a regular work/school schedule? I'm sure you are either too tired to think or too busy in the bathroom crapping out your entire insides to function.

This has everything to do with stupidity and fads rather than eating disorders, but, yes, it is dumb as hell.

nothin wrong with eating disorders....OK?!that being said, fuck pepper and whatever else that is......laxatives and/or sticking fingers down your throat are way easier.
