7/3/2009 9:58:53 PM
OH NOGUNSHOTSSURELY THEY ARE COMING FOR YOU
7/3/2009 9:58:56 PM
it's still real to me, dammit
7/3/2009 10:00:15 PM
guns are mexican fireworks.
7/3/2009 10:00:25 PM
actually no, fireworks are POP POP POP POP. and usually in rapid succession.this was POW.........and that was it.then he posted when we heard the second POW..........and nothing more.
7/3/2009 10:04:20 PM
unless someone's shooting at youthere's no reason to be afraid of gunsgunshotsthe sound of gunshotsetc.
7/3/2009 10:05:33 PM
She has a point. All fireworks go POP POP POP POP.
7/3/2009 10:05:45 PM
and transformers never go POW
7/3/2009 10:06:02 PM
7/3/2009 10:06:37 PM
so these sounds were robots in disguise, or more than meets the eye?
7/3/2009 10:07:49 PM
WTF do you mean, crime doesn't happen here? Nancy Cooper died a mile from my house! Transformers blow...yes, they do sometimes blow. But not two of them within 5 minutes of each other.
7/3/2009 10:08:00 PM
7/3/2009 10:08:58 PM
OK FUCK YOU IT WAS FUCKING TRANSFORMERS
7/3/2009 10:10:09 PM
^^^ That doesn't concern you at all. The only crime that happens in Cary is either tame or based on people who knew each other very well. There are not random robberies and gang shootings in Cary. You're such a paranoid suburbanite. CUT IT OUT NOW, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! Break the cycle![Edited on July 3, 2009 at 10:11 PM. Reason : ^]
7/3/2009 10:11:25 PM

7/3/2009 10:12:03 PM
transformers don't go POW; their fuses do.
7/3/2009 10:13:09 PM
look, the whole point of this thread was just to find out if it's proper Cary etiquette for my husband to get on the front porch and shoot back.
7/3/2009 10:14:55 PM
LOL to eleusis's first post ITT
7/3/2009 10:17:03 PM
when I lived off of South Saunders, all the mexicans stood in the street on 4th of July and New Years and shot guns into the air. Actually, I don't think all of them were smart enough to realize you're supposed to shoot in the air and not just down the road.
7/3/2009 10:17:17 PM
there are big firecrackers that arent pop pop poplike the "cherry bombs" or M-800's or whatever they call them now daysthey are just big ass firecrackers, not your typical blackcat strips etc
7/3/2009 10:20:00 PM
we've only heard two POPs. the first was right before i made the thread, and the second was right before eleusis posted about hearing the second one. and nothing since.hopefully the woman learned her lesson after two shots!
7/3/2009 10:22:59 PM
if this was a firework, it was bigger than an M-80. it had a distinct cracking sound too, so I doubt it was firework.

7/3/2009 10:36:51 PM
fair enoughthough i live in the ghettoso if there's some antiquated shit anywhere, it's probably hereprobably also explains why i think it's dumb to make a thread for gunshots[Edited on July 3, 2009 at 10:41 PM. Reason : hmm]
7/3/2009 10:39:18 PM
someone on TWW once told me we were in the ghetto part of Cary
7/3/2009 10:41:51 PM
network systems are usually located in really old downtown areas with large amounts of load in a congested area. The system works rather well for what they're designed to do, but it's really fucking dangerous to work on them.
7/3/2009 10:43:16 PM
i went to grab a tube in an old motorola amp oncei could see it, so i just snatched it out of the socketupon pulling it out, i realized i was less than an inch from touching a filter capand the amp had been on less then three minutes earlierwhoops
7/3/2009 10:45:08 PM
7/3/2009 10:47:58 PM
cary has no ghetto
7/3/2009 10:49:21 PM
yeah, there are several houses on one end of our street that are rentals, so coming in on that end is always congested with cars in the street. i typically enter/exit on the other end of the street, since it's kinda like a half-circle.also, my husband is kinda annoyed that half the houses in this neighborhood seem to be split-levels and he hates split-levels. we absolutely love the area though, and it would be great if the next house we buy was in this neighborhood, but with the abundance of split-levels i'm guessing we'll end up going elsewhere. hopefully not too far, i love being 5 mins from everything.]
7/3/2009 10:51:17 PM
also, no gunshots in almost an hour. i think we're safe.
7/3/2009 10:52:49 PM
we survived another night. whew.
7/3/2009 10:53:50 PM
srsly

A fireworks war appears to be brewing on Avent Ferry Rd. Or maybe not. Oh wait, yeah there goes another one.I've heard fireworks out front. Then fireworks out back. Then more fireworks out front. Then the other guy out back again. Also, look at the neighborhoods off of walnut street between crossroads and cary towne center if you're looking for similar neighborhoods with a few different housing options. Off of lawrence and nottingham there are neighborhoods with many more two-story homes (many with 2 car garages). The neighborhoods aren't as awesome as seabrook as far as parking and sidewalks go (we'll call that a fault of the 80's build boom in Cary), but the homes may be what you're looking for in most nearly the same area.
7/3/2009 10:57:09 PM
7/3/2009 10:58:05 PM
I don't think I could ever live on a street directly off of Walnut. Way too much traffic, and most of those side streets don't have a back way out, and they don't have stop lights. Ugh.
7/3/2009 10:58:39 PM
there are plenty of non-split level homes to look at in this area. Besides, I'm not completely opposed to living in a split level house. I would rather my next house have a wrap-around porch, and that's not common to any split level house I've ever seen.
7/3/2009 11:04:40 PM
last year, right around this time, I was walking home from work and I thought I heard fireworks. Needless to say, the vehicle speeding away, and a guy laying on the sidewalk made me quickly realize that it wasn't fireworks
7/3/2009 11:08:19 PM
^^^ If you follow on google maps you'll see the two main neighborhoods between the two shopping centers (on opposing sides of walnut) have a decent number of outlets, and have at least one light you can get to (though with significant weaving through the neighborhood, which would take a couple minutes at most).I grew up in there so I'm partial to it myself. The lights are actually not bad as far as wait time goes, EXCEPT AT CHRISTMAS.It's not totally outrageous or anything but you seriously feel like throttling somebody once you sit at one of those lights around christmastime sometimes. The lousy light timing carries over into the night sometimes and you're just sitting there staring at it, waiting for it to change (as no traffic is coming from either way). Also, one benefit of homes in those neighborhoods is that, if they were built in the 80's, many bypassed awful wood paneling and have nice simple drywall installed instead. Less renovation work for you, and better insulation to boot. [Edited on July 3, 2009 at 11:09 PM. Reason : ^]
7/3/2009 11:08:28 PM
i just want a neighborhood with a muhfuckin pool, kwim? we aren't part of Pirates Cove, even though you would think the whole stretch of Seabrook is one neighborhood - not so! we don't pay HOA fees, but sadly there's no pool to go to ]
7/3/2009 11:11:31 PM
i used to spend a lot of time on seabrook back when 01grad lived there.
7/3/2009 11:14:45 PM
No ghetto in Cary? Explain to me the corner of Chapel Hill Road and Harrison Ave.
7/3/2009 11:18:51 PM
If that's a ghetto to you, you have lived a very sheltered life.
7/3/2009 11:22:59 PM
It's a stretch but it's still a very ghetto-ish area. I've seen true ghetto's and that is certainly not one but it's still a shitty block.
