Lake Gaston is larger, and is a VERY popular vacation/recreation area, and it doesn't seem like nearly as many people drown there

Yeah, a girl I was friends with in high school ended up having her dad's body found floating around on Jordan Lake after he went missing for a few days.

i used to work at the only place on lake gaston that sold booze and on saturday nights in the summer there were easily 200 boats stacked up on the shore. people piss drunk driving boats as fast as they could go in the fucking dark, and I can only think of 3 deaths on/in the lake in the last 15yrs.

^^ you forgot to say son.

some of the deaths in that article are weird to me.

the one where the possessions were found and the person called 911. I would never call 911 just because someone left there stuff on the ground.

then the guy who swam the cove. those coves are short distances and typically not very deep. so i'm not sure how that happened.

Dockside?

I can think of 2 deaths in the last year...The girl who got her hair sucked up in the jet ski pump about a month ago and the kid who got rear ended on a jet ski in front of Eaton Ferry bridge last year. Both tragic and easily avoidable, but I don't think alcohol was involved.

Drunk people on Gaston tend to do things like ram boathouses at 60MPH or jump the Lizard Creek or Pea Hill Creek bridge in the middle of the night and end up on the highway...Oh yeah, and that fucker a few years ago who thought he was going through the Pea Hill Creek bridge and instead rammed the dam. About half of his boat went over and he was stuck in the middle. Idiot.

I'm guessing it has to do with proximity to the city. Folks that go to Lake Gaston tend to be lake people with quite a bit of experience. Most of them have quite a haul to get there and they're there for a reason. Any yokel from Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay, etc. can decide to hop in the car and head to Jordan or Falls when it gets hot out though.

My God, Dockside used to be a READY ass place to go. Some of the funniest drunkfight stories I have ever heard in my life involve a night at Dockside.

Now all of those people go to the Lakehouse, but the Lakehouse is pretty tame from what I can tell.

Dockside on July 4th after the fireworks was scary. I was coming up the stairs one time along with about 150 other people and the whole thing dropped about 4". I have no idea what broke, but it didn't seem good. Sweden is right though...There were always some funny brawls there.

The Lakehouse is like any bar...It's as fun as the people you bring with you. I'll go with a crew sometimes, but other than that I don't care for it. I don't think I've ever seen a fight in there which is surprising considering how much the crowd varies. I like the outside section they built last year a lot. It's pretty chill back there.
