I bought a bluetooth gps receiver for my smartphone and couldn't get it to sinc. So after repetedly following the directions and ensuring that this device is supported on my phone, I call verizon to see why I can't get the bluetooth to sinc.

They tell me that the blue tooth pairing for gps and the built in gps on my phone is locked and that the only way I can use gps on my phone is to buy a Verizon gps plan starting at $19.95/month.

I am growing to hate these guys even if the do have reliable coverage.

I found that a lot of times after you enable the bluetooth you have to restart the phone then try and sync.

A GPS plan?

Sounds like a rip off as the GPS signal are indiscriminatly broadcasted worldwide for free. The only "cost" should be use of the internet if say you want to use the coordinates to designated a spot using googlemaps.

I fucking hate cell phone providers. Only VZ and dicks like AT&T would take something that is free and/or built in as part of the software/hardware design by the cell phone manufacturers and expect their customers to "pay them" to use this feature. Usually they accomplish this by blackmailing the cell phone manufacturer to not sell their product in the US market unless they "lock" or "remove" [insert software or hardware accessory] and only allowing the end user customer to access this feature by paying VZ or AT&T.

For example cell phones made by Sony Ericsson come with the 1 gig memory stick but AT&T removes them and expects their customer to pay $texas
for something that comes with the phone. A second example is AT&T forced Sony Ericsson to create a last minute update to their phone software
pre-release because they did not want customers to be able to use their MP3 music for ringtones. Instead they wanted to force them to
buy what is otherwise free for $3.95 (or whatever ringtones cost).

This shit does not fly in Europe. Somehow though its "ok" or "cool" in the US.
