Meh, plenty of "mech" type games have come and gone. Nothing special in my opinion. My favorite has been the Armored Core series. Though, I'll admit, these never get old.

^ When they were working on MW5, the design studio became frustrated with the state of contemporary graphics technology - it wasn't allowing them to do make the game as good as they wanted. Also, sales of the previous game were not up to expectations, so development got put on indefinite hold.

Microsoft shut down FASA studios when they closed Enseble. The guy previously in charge of FASA founded another company and bought the Mechwarrior rights from Microsoft.

I assume there was a stipulation about not making it for a Sony console in the purchase.

Man, Mechwarrior 2 was the first CD based PC game I ever bought. That shit was awesome back in the day. I still remember "All systems nominal"

Anyway, I hope this turns out good. The developer doesn't exactly inspire confidence, neither does the fact that it looks like yet another UE3 game. We shall see.

this is most excellent news. they need to also remove the pixel perfect accuracy of weapons and such... it make MW4 multiplayer pretty unbearable...

i got mechwarrior in an old battletech bundle that was in the bargain bin of an eb.. that had to be close to 10 years ago. you played a guy trying to get vengeance on his family's killers or something -- he forms a mercenary group and you do missions (got to pilot the mechs in 1st person like the rest of the games) for the 5 houses while trying to hunt down the baddies. story was good, but i was playing mechwarrior2 at the time, so i didn't have much patience for the graphics ha.

Speaking of Mechwarrior 1, here is the article's description of the plot for this new game:

"This new MechWarrior is set on the planet Deshler in the year 3015, and places players in the role of Adrian Khol, a wayward nobleman who prefers partying and shirking responsibility over his training and studies. However, when House Kurita launches a massive invasion to conquer Deshler, resulting in the death of his entire family, Khol discovers a purpose to fight for. "

This is almost the exact plot from the original Mechwarrior 1, which I actually played and beat (using a walkthrough though). Mechwarrior 1 was an awesome game, kind of like Mechwarrior Mercenaries but with more plot. You were Gideon Braver and you have 5 years to figure out who destroyed your family estate and forced you off your planet (Ander's Moon). It had all the original inner sphere mechs, extended campaigns, and travel to maybe 100 different planets. The best part besides the plot was negotiating with the different houses for missions. If you fought for one house the another house wouldn't hire you.

Crescent Hawk's revenge was absurdly hard. Crescent Hawk's inception was kind of a cool RPG. There is a maze at the very end of the game which is also absurdly hard.
