anyone else been using it? they released a new build today, installing it now.

10a394 was pretty awesome, not sure what they added in this one. dock expose and the fact that ical/address book/mail are all FULLY integrated with exchange now are the coolest features to me.

Excellent because entourage/outlook is a bloated abortion. Looking forward to third party developers who know how to write good mac apps, such as Omnigroup, putting exchange support in their apps.

another QT icon, besides the new one they've been showing for a couple months?

yeah, i know

the new one is pretty ugly too... definitely liked the old one better.

i haven't noticed anything else really different, though... except for the fact that SubEthaEdit seems to crash less often, lol.

also, dock expose is fucking sweet:

oh, actually I like that one better than the one they've been showing for months.

I think this is the one they have been using

I don't like the purple in the middle, and the Q is too light, almost white at the top. I like the blue-centered one with a darker Q much better.

How do you activate Dock Expose - just right click on the icon?
Can you open up a bunch of files in PhotoShop or something and show what the Dock Expose looks like then?

^hold down left click on the icon.

i'll take a screenshot of photoshop in a sec.

i hadn't seen the icon with the purple in the middle... mine had been the normal QT icon but with alpha blending, lol... maybe i just didn't notice it.'

edit: awww, how disappointing... if you open a bunch of files in photoshop but have the tabbed interface turned on, they all just show up as one window

ah, well, in that case - I also am not sure the new QT icon is a big improvement over the old, Aqua-Blue one. Although, that one did need an update, and the new one is undeniably much fresher and more modern. Of the new purple and blue ones, though, i definitely like the newest blue one better.

I'm still holding out hope that some more hints of the famed "marble" interface will still make its way into the final release. It's time to get rid of, for example, the cutsey aqua-blue scroll bars in Safari and Finder, and those hideous blue pill-type buttons.

however, I agree with Gruber about Marble..... it's just too late
Quote :
"MARBLE

The other X-factor is “Marble”, the rumored redesign of the entire OS’s visual appearance. Could that be the secret Snow Leopard “feature”? Six months ago that’s what I was expecting: that from an engineering point of view, Snow Leopard’s changes would be low-level, but that by making everything look all-new, Apple would have an obvious way to sell it to consumers as something worth paying for. If it looks new it is new, from a normal person’s perspective.

But while I am convinced that “Marble” is a real design project at Apple, I no longer believe it is slated for Snow Leopard. A new visual appearance isn’t something Apple can spring on third-party developers at the last moment. If they plan to ship Snow Leopard soon — say, by the end of August — that just isn’t enough time to allow developers to update their software to look good under a new UI theme. (There’s also the problem of creating software that looks good under both the new and old themes.)

So my hunch is no Marble for Snow Leopard — that it’s now a 10.7 thing. But I’d never bet too much money on the side of Apple accommodating the needs of third-party developers."

that was yet another jizz-in-my-pants moment.

My company doesn't let us connect to Exchange unless we're on the company network and are using Outlook.

Is there any way to get around this? I'd like to be able to check my company email from my personal computer without having to login to webmail, and it'd be nice to have it work with my Apple

^^there's not likely any technical restriction there. If a client supports exchange, it supports exchange (generally speaking).

Unless your company requires VPN, you should be able to connect from home, from a Mac.

we have a vpn, but our laptops have vpn software that we use to login

is that something i could login to directly from my mac, or do i have to get another special client?

nobody has been able to make exchange work with our iphones either, only company-owned blackberries

being that I work for MS, and have exchange on my iPhone, it definitely works.

It's possible that your company has blacklisted clients, or has specific security certificates to limit access to Outlook only. There's no way to know that without asking your IT contact specifically.

The new quicktime icon looks like some sort of powerup from a video game. I'll probably keep trying to mouse over it to get a shield boost or something.

i think it's quite ironic that immediately after this was posted, 3 other people joined in.

ALSO... who's gonna be at crabtree on Friday morning for the release? TWW meetup? i get a copy anyway through ADC but i want it nowww (plus $29 is nothing).

I'm contemplating getting it on Friday. I haven't heard anything encouraging about the latest seed to developers though (which was about a week and a half ago). Some are claiming that there are still a lot of bugs.

However, I'm usually an early adopter and I definitely plan on buying Snow Leopard anyway...

there are indeed still quite a few bugs in 10a432, but nothing horrible. it's definitely more than usable, though. fwiw, it's on my main development machine at work and my personal macbook and has been ever since the first developer seed.

pre-ordered mine today

and Exchange support is the least of my concern on this update; there's so much more to it than seemingly half the people i've talked to or that have written about SL have any clue about

roundup of early reviews
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/08/27/review_roundup_apples_snow_leopard_sports_subtle_improvements.html

conclusion - faster, sleeker, some apps a bit buggy, no-brainer upgrade for geeks with $29, not essential for casual users

^ Ilife is worth the upgrade in my eyes. I love the new features in iphoto. The box set basically gives you iwork for free if you do so at the same time.

haven't read the article yet, but does it talk about the lack of rosetta, and hence the lack of support for rosetta apps? I either need to find a workaround, or wait for a couple of apps to be released as a universal before i move to snow leopard.

Has anyone that pre-ordered had theirs delivered yet? Mine is still showing as "not yet shipped" on the order status page but I've heard that with Apple pre-orders they sometimes just show up without the order page ever acknowledging that they've shipped.
