I just want to say I had no idea how much it affects other people. The answer is...A LOT. I didn't appreciate this fact even after my own attempts and the emotions it stirred in the people around me.

Suicide is the most selfish thing you can do and it heavily affects the people around you, causing lasting, perhaps even irreparable, damage. My cousin leaves behind four children and two grandchildren and a whole cadre of friends and extended family. Everyone is in a frenzy looking for answers and now these kids no longer have a father.

The point is...if you think these thoughts, seek help. Seek it from your personal sources. Seek it from professional sources. Things get rough all the time. The beautiful thing about life is...it goes on.

^^ I have no details.

My mom called me up and started to ask "Do you remember" which is her preface for anyone who has died. Usually it's one of her high school buddies whom I might have met once. Never a family member. Never a suicide. My uncle, who is able to make sense of, explain, and justify anything, could only say, "It's fucked up." I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone who has information, I've only been able to pass on what I know.

He was very successful and had a wonderful wife, four great children and two awesome grandkids. I can't piece it together.

one of my groomsmen committed suicide 4 years ago this week. I think about him quite a lot and I still wish I had taken more time to make sure he was doing ok

well in reality theres nothing you can do or could have done

dont worry about that so much, dudes made their decisions and its wrong for people to go around thinking they had the power to change his life...its not the case

you didnt do anything negative, and thats OK bro

I'll be praying for your family as well. So grateful you can see the way suicide affects everyone else in the family - if you're going to die anyway, might as well wait for things to take their course and be patient, possibly to see a change for the better someday instead of to cheat the wait.

On Saturday I attended the memorial ceremony for a friend who committed suicide. I wish I could have been a better friend for him.

I experienced a suicide in my family early in my life, and were it not for that I might have been naive enough to do the same thing.

I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

i'm sorry for your cousin's children. they're going to be the ones who are both the most fucked up and the least deserving of having this burden on their psyche.

my friend's older brother committed suicide last november. dude was in his last year of law school, had tons of friends, and generally had the whole world going for him, not to mention the fact that my friend worshipped him. i was furious when i found out about it. seconding the whole thing about the beauty of life is that it goes on. but not only that, even if your life seems like it's shitty as it can possibly get, all that means is that life can only get better from there.

in on being sorry for your loss

I'm 24. He's in his 50s. This guy is my second cousin, but still a pretty important part of my family.

one of my best friends committed suicide about 2 years ago. She jumped from her dorm window at UNCC. She had a rough life and some diagnosed mental health problems, but it's tough when you don't really know the reason why.

Damn, that's so sad. But if nothing else, at least this opened your (and others) eyes to the damage suicide does to everyone around the person. It's no comfort to the situation, but it is one way to learn such thing.
