I saw the Aurora out at Jordan Lake with some friends several years ago when it was actually this far south. It was like a giant red, wavy curtain in the sky. Very surreal. I'd love to go somewhere in Canada and see it there and perhaps some noctilucent clouds!

I have been to Alaska and northern Canada, but unfortunately it was during the summer, so no aurora. Someone told me that up there, you won't see them til about September.

Aurora Borealis?
At this time of year?
At this time of day?
In this part of the country?
Localized entirely within your kitchen?

"Summary: A solar wind shock wave swept past Earth on Sept. 7th at approximately 1630 UT (12:30 EDT). The interplanetary magnetic field turned sharply south when the wave arrived, which triggered a strong (G3-class) geomagnetic storm. Sky watchers in northern Europe, Canada, and most northern US states spotted auroras."

HAHAHA. [/sarcastic hysterics] The irony of your obtuse comment is that it was directed toward someone who watches weather for a living. But thanks for playing.

Near Brainerd, MN

Gunzz, no auroras last night I kept checking and checking and checking and had other people checking. When the KP dropped from 7 to 6 to 2* and the confidence interval went from 0.7x to 0.9x to 2.2x and the maps showed everything shifting north and getting smaller, I decided to go to bed.

*: At my current magnetic latitude, a kp of 5 is considered necessary to see the aurora.
