i'm looking at the motorola W755 ($20), the LG chocolate 3 ($70), or the nokia 7205 intrigue ($100)...

...or just buying a v3m from craigslist

why settle for a non-smartphone

if you're getting a new phone in 2009, why would you get something that doesnt have email, web browsing, etc?

^^ because i have absolutely NO use for a smartphone

i can pay $30/more month for fewer minutes and a bulkier phone (not to mention the smartphone premium)...all so i can, what, check my email during lunch? dick around on google when someone has a random question we all desperately want to know the answer to?

i take my laptop if i need the internet because if i do, i need a lot more than an overpriced calculator can give me...and i have a book if i'm so bored that i need something to keep me entertained

i don't even care if the damn thing plays music, but in those cases when i forget the mp3 player when i go to the gym, the phone as a backup wouldn't be bad

^ i need a phone that gets service everywhere since i travel outside of major cities and away from highways...GSM still sucks donkey balls for overall coverage compared to CDMA

TELEPHONE? WHY DO I NEED ONE OF THOSE WHEN I CAN JUST MAIL SOMEONE A LETTER

forgive me for suggesting you join the modern era where people actually need to be able to send and receive email when they're not at their computers

a Palm or a Blackberry isn't going to break your bank nowadays, even with a $50/month unlimited data plan

^^ oh shit, you're really mad, aren't you? someone doesn't need to have their work glued to their hip 24/7, so they must not be modern? haha, fuck you dipshit

^ i've never owned samsung...are they quality?

the problem with the cheapest thing is that it's crap...just because i don't want a smartphone doesn't mean i don't want a QUALITY phone...i need something that's more metal than plastic, with a sturdy build that will withstand me dropping it over and over again

also, a 2mp camera AS A BACKUP is nice to have...i used the one on my z6m a number of times

also, the ability to use a microSD card is pretty nice, too, since i can load up music for those rare aforementioned occasions

you never use email outside of for work-related things? i guess i'm just surprised that someone who has been technologically savvy enough to use the wolfweb (for whatever thats worth) as long as yourself would want to settle for a "cellphone" when for the same price you can do so much more

I have had the Chocolate 3 for a year and a half or so...Got it the week it came out.

I never use the MP3 player. It sounds like ass through the built in speaker and if I have headphones with me there's about a 100% chance I'll have my MP3 player handy too. It sounds fine with headphones, but it also takes a toll on your battery. It just seemed like one of those things I'd use, but I really never do.

The FM transmitter is terrible and worthless. If I set it to transmit and put the phone right beside the radio in my truck it will barely pick up the signal. Even if I'm out in the country and away from a lot of the radio chatter it is still useless. They shouldn't legally be allowed to advertise it as having one IMO.

As a phone it's pretty good though. It's slim, light, and has really good reception. I don't regret buying it just for that.

well i'll stop shitting on your thread, but i would still advise you to go into a Verizon store, check the prices and plan rates of a regular phone vs. smart phone, and mess around with a smartphone or two in the store...you might not need or want all the extra functionality, but if you can get something for like $10-$15 extra per month, it might be well worth it

i just wouldn't want to get locked into a 2 year deal right now for something thats already relatively obsolete

that's the problem...the cheapest plan they quoted me was $110 before taxes for a "similar" plan to what i have, which includes my gf's line...that $110 includes unlimited data...it does NOT include 10 "my circle" numbers and it's only 500 minutes (versus the 1000 we have now)

i just can't see jacking my bill up by $30 for fewer features that i KNOW i'll use and more feature that i may or may not use (not to mention the extra cost of a smartphone)

*shrug*

if you're not gonna use the extra features and its too much extra to pay, then theres no reason for you to get something fancy or expensive

however

i know when i've gotten new phones, the price of the phone is one price for no plan, a lower price for a 1 year plan, and an even lower price for a 2 year plan...so depending on what they quoted you, you might be able to pay about the same per month as you're paying now but get a smart phone if you sign a 2 year contract

if not, well so be it

sounds like that agent was going to ass rape you. i'd try another one. at&t for example used to have unlimited everything except minutes for $19/month. i doubt it's still quite that low but 30-40 extra for less features is ridiculous.

(unless you have an iphone)

pretty much all of the smart phones at Verizon are obsolete. The Storm 2 is a couple months away, The Omnia 2 and TP2 aren't that far off either. Only recent one is the Tour and that'd be way overkill for quag. And the price you pay for the phone varies with the contract length but not the monthly cost.

And I pay $91 for 450min, texting and unlimited data/internet on the storm so $100+ for 2 lines isn't really out of the question. Base plan of 450min is $39.99 for a single line and $69.99 for 2 lines and 700 min and you need a 1400 min family plan to get Verizon's "my circle" crap.

get whatever version of the LG EnV is out. it has micro sd. full keyboard. 2 screens. pretty sturdy (im really rough on phones and i havent broke it yet). 2mp camera plus records video. mp3 stuff. relatively small. should be free with an upgrade by now. i have had the the env2 (vx-9100) for about 6 months and my only real complaint is the vibrate isnt as strong as i would like it but otherwise, decent.

i don't know how i feel about the slide phones, though...this motorokr (z6m) was GREAT for about a year...for the past 8 months, it's been a piece of shit

also, i'm on an alltel nationwide plan, so my $80 gets me two lines sharing 1000 anytime minutes, 10 my circle numbers, and 1000 texts/video/picture/whatever per month per phone

since verizon took over, the same thing is $100+ (surprise! i knew this was going to happen )

i've debated switching to AT&T, but as i said before, i need REAL nationwide coverage, not the "i never venture far from cities or major highways" coverage that GSM carriers offer...also, i fully use the 10 "my circle" numbers, of which google 411 is one of them (all connections made through GOOG411 are free )...between the gf and myself, we use about 700 anytime minutes each month...take away those 10 circle numbers and i'd probably need to get one of those 1400 minute plans (with my job, i have to talk to people, i can't just send them an email)

in short, i'm afraid to leave my current plan because 1.) i'm grandfathered into it as long as i don't change it, and 2.) i suspect i'll be ass-raped by anything else even remotely resembling my plan in terms of minutes

oh well...i might take another look at the slide phones...but i swore to myself that after this piece of crap, i'd stick with a flip

I have had the enV Touch for about three weeks now. I have been happy with it. You have the ability to use the web browser if you want to and pay per megabytes (you are not forced to buy a package). It has a pretty nice camera on it with auto-focus and other features. Music player is pretty decent, it syncs up with Windows Media player easily. I have a microSD card on it, so I can have a good amount of pictures and music. The only thing is that the battery dies pretty fast, so I have to plug it in pretty much every night (which is not a huge deal).

the enV 3 was pretty nice, but i have very little need for a keyboard (the touch version was pretty nice, too)

the commercials you see where verizon claims to have the largest network are false.

at&t has the largest network in the U.S.

though it is true that each will get better reception in different areas.
