I want to put some accent lighting behind my tv. I see a lot of companies selling kits, but I have no idea if any of them are worth it.

Has anyone ventured into this area?

Has anyone made something like this?

I too hate money and like to give my excess to Progress Energy.

Unless you're trying to build something where you can control the lighting of LEDs in groups or individually, I'd look for LED rope lights.

If it's electronic, you're going to have a hard time making it for cheaper than you can buy it from ebay.

http://www.oznium.com/ has some good stuff, easy wiring, lots of choices, etc. I don't know if they're the cheapest, but they're pretty reasonable. Most of their stuff is 12V, but they have transformers and whatnot.

LEDs cost like a penny on the dollar compared to other lights...

^ They also often run off cheap and inefficient Chinese-made transformers. Still, I'll acknowledge that your talking about pocket change per month added to your power bill.

i would take pics of my setup but it's pretty tough to get the pic bc of the flash and all. i would get a tiny radio shack 12v power inverter and run basic computer cold cathodes.
