IDK, she went out on our porch (like she always does) and then came back inside and was panting heavily and wouldn't sit still. She was pacing and pacing around the house and breathing really hard.

Thanks, yeah she's my baby and wants nothing to do with anyone but me. She insists on sleeping between my husband and me every night and smacks my husband if he gets too close...he secretly loves her too though...it's making me teary eyed thinking about it...I'm a fucking wuss.

Update:

Just got off the phone with my husband. He said she had a fever of 103.5. That's not a high fever (according to vet), but it is a fever just the same. After a little while, they checked her again and her fever is back down and she has stopped panting and breathing hard. They said her respirations were 220 per minute when she came in but now they're 30. The vet thinks something scared her outside or got her worked up to the point where she had a panic attack. Apparently, panic attacks can cause mild fever, increased respirations, panting, and pacing in cats (sounds similar to humans minus the fever). So, she's okay and she and my husband should be on their way home soon.

Good to hear she's ok! I bet she'll be scared shitless of spider webs now...one of my Mom's cats got into an anthill and his face got all swollen up, wouldn't go outside for weeks. He goes outside now, but I bet he doesn't go near the anthills

lol, so a domestic animal walks back into the house from being OUTSIDE....where motor sensory activities are involved that can make them become hot, in which panting would become normal.... and is panting, so you take it to the ER Vet at 11 PM?

LMAO

Question: If you went and played around outside for 10 minutes, would you be hot and breathing hard? Do you go to the emergency room for that?

Sorry, i usually don't crack on people in here, but this is rich

cats do not often "pant"

so, they were justified in taking it to the vet

yea cats don't usually pant unless they are extremely overheated or something is really wrong (pain, etc). so going to the vet or at least calling the emergency vet is justified here in my opinion!

The emergency vet SUCKS. My mom came home and found her 12 year old pug all swollen and barely breathing. She rushed him to the emergency vet and they took a bunch of x-rays, put him on oxygen, told her that it may have been some sort of cancer. She told them she could tell he was swollen around his neck, and could he have just been bitten with something. The vet ignored it, and said that he may need surgery. And if he did need surgery, due to his age, it would probably be best to just put him down.

Long story short, and $350 later, she picked him up the next day and he was fine. Took him to her regular vet who subsequently found 2 little bites on his neck, most likely from a spider.

So yeah, the emergency vet was ready to euthanize my mom's dog over a spider bite.

that is scary.

i've never been to the emergency vet but i've called twice to ask questions, which they've always provided a good answer to and said "if it doesn't improve then bring her in." but i usually call them to see if i need to bring her RIGHT NOW or if she can wait to go to the regular vet in the morning.

once was an upper respiratory infection and she wasn't eating and the vet (well technically i think it was a vet tech on the phone) helped me with that (said heat some wet food for her). and once she was bleeding from her butt (GROSS) and they said it was probably worms but if it got worse to bring her in. it was worms and i just took her to my regular vet. it was still $$$ for her dumb ass!

We've had a great experience (by great experience, I mean the vet was good) with a sick cat from the emergency vet. One little kitten we had just found in a dumpster was hypoglycemic and started becoming paralyzed. We took her into the vet, they fixed her for free, and one of their employees gave her a home. This was around 7am on a Sunday morning.

Then my cat has an URI which causes his eye to swell up and puss sometimes. One day it was pretty swolen (again on a Sunday) and he was flicking at it with his paw, like it was itching. Well, he got the claw stuck on the eyelid and was causing it to bleed and it became swollen shut. So... we took him in, they checked to make sure there wasn't a scratch on the eyeball and gave him some steroids to help with the swelling.

You did the right thing by taking your cat in. If you hadn't, and had just posted on here looking for advice, people would be giving you a hard time about not taking her in too.

1. Become a Vet
2. Start a business very close to several over-protective pet owners
3. ...
4. Profit

Seriously though, I'd take my kitty to the vet too.

We called the vet first and they highly recommended bringing her in, particularly because of the panting. They were worried about respiratory distress, some sort of bite, or a heart issue. I don't regret taking her in. The staff was really nice and helpful.

i'm glad she is ok now!!!

it is good you called first. the two times i've called they've been really nice and said that i could probably wait it out so i feel like the one i call actually cares and doesn't want to drag me in for money

(or have to do work at like 2am hah)
