Overpriced dogshit. Mellow Mushroom prices with CiCi's quality. No draft beer.

What a crappy way to execute a great idea.

Anyone else been? Thoughts?

they have beer, just no draft beer it didn't seem.

and RD, believe it or not, I am interested in other people's opinions. I don't know everything and I'm constantly looking to expand my scope of consciousness by entertaining ideas or conclusions that I may not have thought of. So quit being a jagoff and go find a job.

^yup.

if the pizza isn't good and is priced like mellow mushroom its not going to survive.

they need amore style cost and quality with beer.

pretty much amore needs to move onto glenwood.

Is pizza hut (or other low-quality chains,) the only place that has more than one style of pizza for sale?
Why does a pizza place have to only have one style? Why not offer more styles on the same menu?
(hand-tossed, thin, new york thin, deep dish, mediterranean, pan, sicilian, french bread, etc.)

Papa John's has their original crust or a thin crust, but i think the thin crust only comes in large size.

Priced like Mellow Mushroom? For lunch I had 2 slices and a drink for $6.

That's was a lunch special.

I ordered the 14" 'Final Four' and it was sausage, mushrooms, green peps, onion for $15.5, plus a $2 sweet tea.

now, if the quality was there, I don't mind paying that much....but it wasn't. The pizza was dripping wet and the crust was crappy. Even if I was "sauced" myself, I don't think the pizza would be good.

As far as I see it, there are only 2 reasons to go there.

-If you want a slice or two of pizza (Mellow Mushroom and Moonlight don't do this to my knowledge)
-If you want a late night bite to eat (Mellow Mushroom and Moonlight close much earlier)

Which is fine with me. It fills a niche.

I say we go ahead and create a Raleigh style pizza and sell that exclusively just to give NYC and Chicago transplants something else to be condescending about.

if only Ruckus would open a location on Glenwood....they would clean up.

but Sauced is garbage to this point. I was telling a co-worker that all it will take is one bad review and hopefully they will shape that shit up.

arog20012001 and others - to clear up some confusion and complaints:

Sauced Pizza is the only place at the moment in the area that serves slices outside of lunch. Served all day and open until 3am Thursday-Saturday. (Pizza by the slice - pepperoni, sausage, and cheese slices are the only menu offerings after midnight.)

There is a also a full menu should the pizza not satisfy, but arog20012001's complaint is only the second I've read since opening in regards to the quality and taste of pizza.

The rest of the menu offerings are also really good - the best part to me as a diner is that everything is fresh, right down to the appetizer moz sticks (cut fresh, breaded, then cooked).

Also, there is a wide selection of bottled beers, wines, and a full bar. Plans to install drafts on the wall next to the open kitchen window are in the works, but the way the bar is built now does not allow for built-in drafts. Don't worry though, we do hear the calls for draft and we're working on it. It won't be overnight though.

Otherwise, I'd love for everyone else here to come give Sauced a try, outside of arog20012001's opinion.

What do y'all think of maybe having a TWW night so you all could make your own judgements? Would anyone come?

Thanks!
~Lisa

I pretty much chalked my experience up to opening-week jitters. Every new restaurant has kinks that need working out, this place just has A LOT of kinks to work out.

That being said, I'm not averse to trying it again. Those mozzarella sticks sound good.

^^^It's pretty obvious Sauced Pizza serves the bar patrons that walk the streets late at night on Glenwood south and the surrouding area. Not a single place you mentioned is within a few block radius, which is as far as a drunk person late at night is willing to travel before hopping in a cab and going home.

Sorry, the relative area I was talking about was the Glenwood area and immediately surrounding. HST campus is not "close" by non-cab, driving means to me. It'd be one hellafied walk in high heels (from the female perspective).

ok i LOVE pizza, all kinds - even nasty greasy papa johns or marco's at 3am. i just love it BUT eating good NYC pizza this past week made me never want to eat papa john's again. i mean obviously i'm going to but it was just SOoOOOOooOO good.

for the record i also like deep dish chicago pizza (the real kind), too. but why are they so much better (nyc and chicago)??

new york pizza was so amazing. i think i am going to move there just for the food.

Yeh its only been opened two weeks and I went there recently and liked it. I'm sure they will work their kinks out soon enough. The prices aren't terrible...and it is co-owned by an NCSU alum. At least they kept it local.

I went late last night and thought it was good. $3.00 a slice, but the pizza was good (esp. for 1:30am pizza). I like that they stay open late and serve by the slice. I wish they were on Glenwood rather than off in a parking lot because they'd get more business that way. It was nice having somewhere to eat that wasn't a hot dog stand.

I've been there several times already since I work literally yards away. They're not that bad, this dude just seems like a whiny bitch.

The first couple of slices I had there were meh, but the subsequent ones have been good.

Not Ruckus good, but good.

For the prices you're paying, it's not bad at all. Everything on the menu seems to be reasonably priced, and "just bottle" beer isn't so bad when you can get summer seasonals for $2 a bottle.

that is true, but I can bet that they're saving thousands of dollars in rent by not being on Glenwood proper.

Because the more styles you have, the more room there is to fuck things up when you're not relying on frozen corporate crust. I'd rather have a pizza restaurant stick to one or two things and do them really well, then offer a crapload of choices and do them poorly.

I'll tell you this, it tasted like frozen corporate crust when I went there...and the crust is really what makes or breaks a slice of pizza IMO.

so far, this thread consists of people trying to defend this place by saying one of three things. Basically, it's only mediocre food but the redeeming factors are:

it's the only place that serves late nite pizza
it's the only place that serves by the slice in that area
they have $2 seasonal bottles

to me, the last factor is really the only one that stand out as exemplary. the other two are just ways to gloss over the fact that the pizza sucks.

the thing is, I was expecting so much more from this place and they went and fucked with my hopes dreams! my dreams!

^^you ate there once, you fucking sod

most people are trying to be fair because they don't eat one thing off the menu and then say the place sucks

I've eaten plenty of times at Ruckus Cary and even though their pizza isn't as good as R1's, their other shit is great. Pizza takes time to get right, and you can't expect a place that just opened with all new employees to make the pies exactly the same way.

Get off your fucking high horse and try it again before you go bashing a place. Even fucking professional food critics don't do what you've done here. Who the fuck do you think you are, and why in fuck's name would we lend end credibility to your amateur ass to begin with?

Don't cry because some guy on the Internet said your buddy's pizza place blows.

The simple fact is, their signature item was over priced and of poor quality.

I said I would be willing to try again. We all know my hopes won't be high this time so maybe that way I will be able to accept it for what it is, middle of the road pizza.

$6 for 2 slices and a drink? What are you, jewish, or scottish? Seriously, son, get the fuck out of here with that.

It's not my buddy's place, but I can guaran-damn-tee I know more about the place than you do, and you're not being fair about it.

Again, I'll reiterate: You eat there once and all of a sudden you're the Julia Child of this shit. nea plz, gtfo of here.

Anybody who knows me knows I'm a regular Ruckus customer. Sauced is not Ruckus. That doesn't mean it's bad. And given your track record of jumping to conclusions, no one here gives a shit what you think, even if you do eat there again, because all of your credibility is lost.

15.5 for a small with quality worse than Digiornos is over priced in my book.

And if knowing good pizza from bad pizza makes me Julia Child then maybe I should write a book.

Quit hating because my opinion differs from your biased one.

Your trolling attempts make it seem like you are overcompensating for something.

Perhaps your apparent lack of knowledge of good pizza?

Or maybe you know that the pizza sucks and you are trying to stick up
for your buddy's place outta loyalty? I just don't get why you are flipping.
