for the second time in 3 years, the damn shifter cable (at least, i assume that's what it is) crapped out...i've got one on hold at advance on western, but i need someone to install it (it's my understanding that it's not especially difficult, i just don't have the knowledge)
i'm SUPPOSED to be out of town for a wedding (rehearsal dinner was tonight...that ain't gonna happen), but the wedding's not till tomorrow...it would be great if someone could fix it tomorrow morning (either stopping by my house or i can have it towed to yours), but i'm asking a lot...gf (who's already there) will probably just drive the hour back and pick me up, but i thought i should at least find out what y'all would charge to fix it
i tried calling dan while i was waiting for the truck (since he's the one who replaced the the last time), but apparently i only have his old number (or so i was told by the guy who answered the phone )
dan...what's your new number? 7/31/2009 5:02:43 PM |

no...IIRC, the saturn's clutch is hydraulic, so no cable
this is a cable that attaches to the bottom of the shift stick, travels through the firewall, and hooks to the transmission...i'm pretty sure you can just jack up the car and do it that way
i might try to do it myself, but i think i'll need to get a different jack since i don't trust the emergency one...i just wanted to have someone lined up to do it in case (probably when) i fail or can't figure it out 8/2/2009 9:47:22 AM |

Never trust any jack. I've seen several fail. Throw a jackstand or at least a cinderblock under there for redundancy.
I can do it if you don't want to. 8/2/2009 9:50:53 AM |

i was under the impression that it was the bushing at the base of the stick that always craps out...i bought a delrin replacement a few years back when the cables went out, thinking that might be the cause...the bushing still seems to be in good shape, so i've yet to replace it...apparently, these cables were defective from the beginning and eventually just snapped
