whales >>>>>> ncsualldayCommercial whalers should be put to death. Ten million Michael Vicks are better than one commercial (or sport) whaler.

^ what if dogs were the size of whales?

^lol... They would probably eat us.

The Japanese have very little land mass for an agricultural industry such as we have in America. I can imagine that stock animal numbers are very low. If sustainable aquaculture can be obtained that includes the slaughter of whales, there's little reason they would not participate in it. What's the natural renewal rate for births in the pacific whale population?

i accidentally watched an episode of whale wars. i was cheering for the whalers the entire time. not because i enjoy the death of whales, but i do enjoy those stupid fucking hippies failing so miserably at trying to thwart their efforts. shit was hilarious.

This is going nowhere fast.Problem, Japanese consume exotic seafood whose population may suffer due to harvesting. Solutions could include importation of livestock or fresh meat, although such isn't good for a sovereign country. Again, Japan has little land mass for livestock, and I believe that their future in sustainable aquaculture would be their most profitable venture. I mean seriously, who wouldn't want to be a whale rancher? Once they develop synthetic cetacean growth hormone, they'll be able to have larger and more profitable whales.

this shit pisses me offstop humanizing these animalsthe only way I will accept your argument is if you are 100% vegetarian (that means no fish!) and you don't wear anything made from animal productotherwise you are just hypocrites- what is the difference in eating a hamburger and eating a whale burger? there is none... we just humanize these monsters and make ourselves feel bad....this post isn't directed at anyone in particular btw... Just for anyone who is sitting there feeling sorry for the whales without really thinking about things[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 10:43 AM. Reason : d]

People are overpopulated.... And I've heard we taste like chicken. But we don't eat animals at the top of the hierarchy -- even if they are overpopulated. Bears? I'm pretty sure most bears are endangered -- certainly polar bears. In and of itself, eating any particular animal isn't wrong. But eating animals in a manner that constitutes an unreasonable risk to the survival of the species, is inescapably wrong. Wrong. Also, there are other factors -- like how society views the eating of animals at the top of the hierarchy. Why don't we eat dogs? Honestly, we could... there's plenty of them... but the predominant culture views it as wrong, so we don't. That shouldn't stop you if you really want a dog burger... I just wouldn't tell anyone that you ate one. Why don't we eat humans? I'm not talking about killing a person without their consent in order to eat them. I'm suggesting that if someone puts in their will that they want to be ground up and made into burgers, why shouldn't people eat those burgers? Again, we could... there's plenty of humans... but the (overwhelmingly) predominant culture views it as wrong, so we don't.

with a NC hunting license, you can legally harvest one black bear per year.[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 11:30 AM. Reason : afds]

why does everything taste like chicken?i highly doubt human meat tastes like chicken
8/2/2009 11:45:24 AM
I think the market should dictate what we eat.
8/2/2009 11:47:45 AM
^^^Do you disagree with that law, or the idea behind it?^^If someone said you could eat them when they die (assuming the don't die of something that would make their flesh inedible,) would you? Would you at least try a bite? Be honest.^No.I mean, in part, it already does whether we like it or not.... but no -- it shouldn't be the only factor
8/2/2009 11:51:00 AM
there's plenty of bears around here. i'm cool with it.

8/2/2009 12:03:53 PM
8/2/2009 12:30:59 PM
^No, because your given was it being in another country. There are only so many cultures... but many types of animals. Moreover, it's not just social acceptance, but also sustainability. Japanese culture accepts whale meat -- but it's not sustainable. Some cultures eat chimps – but it's not sustainable. Therefore, those practices are wrong. Sustainability is more important than social acceptance.Plus, shouldn't "That shouldn't stop you if you really don't want a dog burger", instead be, " That shouldn't compel you to if you really don't want a dog burger" Okay, you meant "That shouldn't stop you [from not eating them] if you really don't want...." for the most part, i'm with Willy Nilly on this onei don't have any moral objections to eating whales, or even that they're in pain when and until they die (don't get me wrong...i think it's WRONG to inflict pain on any living thing when it can, within reason, be avoided...mother nature isn't kind or gentle, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be when we can, ESPECIALLY in cases where the reason for the pain is for no other reason than greed)what i object to is the very harvesting of whales as food...there are very few good reasons for whales to be used as food and many more good reasons why they shouldn't
