A cigar shop.[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 1:47 PM. Reason : .]
8/2/2009 1:47:28 PM
are you a leprechaun?
8/2/2009 1:47:54 PM

8/2/2009 1:48:03 PM

8/2/2009 1:48:22 PM
George's on Hillsborough st. next to Progress piercing.[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 1:48 PM. Reason : l]

i remember reading a thread a while ago about some smokers club or something downtown, I think it was called Churchills? Do they sell there?I mean no shit i gotta go to a cigar shop but i've never kept an eye out for 'em, thought i'd ask you fine gentlemen for your $.02
8/2/2009 1:50:13 PM
pipes by george, for sure.[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 1:51 PM. Reason : ^ if you're thinking of churchill's on elm, that is in greensboro.]

8/2/2009 1:50:52 PM
^ yeah.
8/2/2009 1:51:24 PM
I'm puffin on a Romeo&Julieta right now and i enjoy it (don't really know what else to compare it to).what's brands are high roller?
8/2/2009 1:52:17 PM
My God! It's like five cigarettes at once!
8/2/2009 1:57:29 PM
There's no point in buying a high roller $7+ cigar if you can't appreciate it. I would suggest talking to the shopkeep at whatever store you go to and ask for a recommendation based upon how long you've been smoking and what you like in a cigar. For me, I really enjoy a Flor de Lis Maduro cigar. It's a true medium cigar with a full bodied flavor, and they run under $3 a cigar. It's really the standard for which most other cigars are compared to.And I'm not sure of any great cigar shops in Raleigh, just Greensboro.

you need to start drinking some scotch... goes very well with a nice cigar- do some research and see what cigars pair well with what liquor you haveI haven't seen them in a while, and I don't know if they even make them anymore (someone tried to tell me they don't), but I always like Macanudo portafino's (SP??) anyway, good luck with the hunt, and don't be afraid to ask someone at a store (Tinder Box isn't a bad place to go)- there is also a place over on hillsborough that is pretty good[Edited on August 2, 2009 at 2:09 PM. Reason : no idea what the name is... it is right before it splits]
8/2/2009 2:08:44 PM
^^well i'm not picking up smoking as a usual thing, just something i'll do once a month or so while chillen with the brotheren for poker nights and such. Since it's an infrequent event i don't mind spending dollarbucks on a a cigar with high end name, just so i can say i smoked it. Not looking to pick up smoking.
8/2/2009 2:11:08 PM
8/2/2009 2:11:18 PM
^^ In that case I'd say CAO, Cohiba, Macanudo, etc.

^^thx

8/3/2009 8:30:31 PM
^what do you recommend sir?
8/3/2009 8:32:33 PM
Monte Cristo?A tin of macanudos isn't that expensive. Then again, I haven't smoked a cigar since 2007, but it was one of the more calming things I've ever done.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 8:35 PM. Reason : Oh, yes, go to Pipes by George.]
8/3/2009 8:35:02 PM
8/3/2009 8:38:08 PM
I'm not sure cigars are very good once they cool down...
8/3/2009 8:39:13 PM
8/3/2009 8:39:47 PM
haha, i pulled it out of the fridge before i smoked it.which brings me to a new point, how do you save a cigar? or is that frowned upon?^hmm point taken. This George guy sounds like a prophet.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 8:43 PM. Reason : ]
8/3/2009 8:41:11 PM
if you've already lit it, you better finish it. If you're serious about storing cigars you need a humidor.
8/3/2009 8:46:15 PM
definitely not serious about cigars, just here to learn about the culture.
8/3/2009 8:49:11 PM
It's tobacco wrapped in tobacco, it almost sounds like you're smoking cigars for the wrong reason. Perhaps get some crystal whiskey glasses and see if you like that better?
8/3/2009 8:50:25 PM
Honestly i just wanted to try it out and see what it was like.
8/3/2009 8:52:47 PM
Questions to ask yourself:1. Did you enjoy it?2. Did a cigar taste like it was worth saving?3. What did I like about the taste?4. What didn't I like about the taste? Then go ask someone in a cigar shop, like George, about cigars and their different qualities. A cigar shop owner pretty much exists in helping you chose the cigar you'll like the most, so he can sell more of them to you. If you didn't like the whole experience, you can try a few more times at your leisure, but it's not something you should do necessarily for the culture. To me, Macanudo courts were mild and smooth and creamy, Romeo y Julietas were more medium bodied, leathery and spicy. Then I get the shakes.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 8:58 PM. Reason : Can't shoot worth a shit while smoking a cigar...]
8/3/2009 8:57:02 PM
Talk to George. One of 3 things will happen1) You'll be hooked and spend way too much money on them2) You'll enjoy them, not all the time, but enough to pick out a good one when you do want to smoke3) You'll get bored with them real quick.Either way, you'll be better served than just walking into Tinderbox and buying the most expensive cigar you can find.

Just smoked one of these the other night:If you want a pricier cigar, but with an accessible smoke, I'd say this is the one to go for.
9/3/2009 2:26:18 PM
It's too bad that they really only make smoking objects out of tobacco son. What a worthless, nasty tasting plant. ]
9/3/2009 2:28:29 PM
theres the tinderbox in crabtreebut smoking cigars is still an addiction and cancer risk so keep that in mind
9/3/2009 2:37:56 PM
pipes by George keeps these in stock fairly regularly. Makes gift buying for my dad very easy
9/3/2009 4:37:17 PM
I need to hang out with your dad.
9/3/2009 4:46:45 PM
i buy samplers from Thompson Cigarmy favorite is Macanudo Robusto. I also like Gurkhas, Rocky Patel Sun Grown, and Connecticut wrapped Macanudos.with the samplers, I get a variety and can figure out what I like and don't like.JR often has samplers in baskets in front of the counter (in the walk-in humidor in Smithfield) as well.unless cigars are stored in a humidor, they won't last but a week or two in their plastic wrapper.you can get a basic humidor starter kit for like $40.
9/3/2009 5:03:38 PM
Opux X is one of the best cigars I've ever had, period. Good daughter! Ran me about $25 bucks for a robusto about 4 years ago. Probably much more now.Other recommendations:Padron 1964 maduro and 1926TatuajeGod of FireMontecristo tuboCAO soprano

stopped by George's today but i was too late. they close at like 5:30 most days.I'll pay a visit tomorrow and see what the man has to offer. I'm sure i'll leave happy.
9/4/2009 8:15:35 PM
it is not possible to leave that place unhappy. he's too awesome.
9/4/2009 8:17:23 PM
talk about new money
9/4/2009 10:13:49 PM
I was told that Cigars are kind of a gateway drug.Today it's cigars, tomorrow it's cock.If that's true, I'm not smoking cigars at all.
