The where have you lived thread inspired this. I moved from NYC when I was a very small child to a coastal town about 45 miles outside of the city on Long Island Sound. 50k-60k population and a very cool little downtown. It's a very typical New England city with the downtown built right on the harbor (so as to be NOT directly on Long Island Sound) and with a traditional Green in the center

Milford, CT

The Waterfront:

Town Hall on the Lake downtown:

Downtown in the winter:

The suburbanization of the town. Cameron Village like shopping center just inland from the Waterfront district.

Make some bank. I'd love to move back there, but unfortunately it is soooo expensive to live there now. People were trying to escape the INSANELY high property taxes and real estate in Fairfield County and basically made all the bordering New Haven County towns/villages so much more expensive.

We sold our house in CT in 1999 for like 375k. Two years later it was worth well over 600k. They get cheaper as you move down the coast further from NYC. You'd probably like Old Saybrook, Lime, etc, etc if you like true New England villages on the water.

marko, where is that? That's an awesome house/location.

Housing on base are nicer than when I was there... They've got 2 car garages instead of a single car carport now!

It's in Winston, near the mall, just off 40 and one of the busiest streets in town

It's not like I posted a picture of Atlantis or something

So this is generally where I'm from. It's often referred to as the Milky Way Galaxy. Below is a picture of it from our point of view.

And this little ball of shit is where I'm from. We call it Earth. The continent in focus is my current location and where I grew up, but I like to think of the whole thing as mine.
