I spray my tools with Liquid Wrench. Its better at preventing rust than WD. It also smells better.

WD stands for Water Displacing. While it does have some lubricative properties, there are better choices for that specific job.

I've heard nitroglycerin looks like a lot like lard oil and has been accidentally substituted in its place. Often with explosive consequences.
