when it comes to dating?i don't care at all, but reading how passionate some folks are about their music tastes made me wonder. anyone ever turned down someone just because of the music they liked?
8/3/2009 10:20:22 PM
you do not touch a black girls radio.
8/3/2009 10:21:01 PM
it's not a dealbreaker, but i consider myself somewhat of an evangelist when it comes to music.
8/3/2009 10:21:16 PM
if their taste in music was particularly terrible, i imagine it would be a deal breaker after sex got old
8/3/2009 10:22:20 PM
one thing i personally cant stand is when women are like "you wouldnt like my music"...i cant stand that shit! just because i listen to a lot of southern rap doesnt mean i'll "hate" your music. i like pretty much anything, i just prefer what i listen to.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 10:23 PM. 8/3/2009 10:22:29 PM
never really met any gals with similar taste as me
8/3/2009 10:22:53 PM
*Just* because of musical tastes - no.I have dated someone solely because of shared musical taste. It ended badly - we had nothing else in common.
8/3/2009 10:23:23 PM
Music is something I can overlook, because I have broad tastes (as long as he doesn't listen to Creed). Movies, however, are another story. I prefer a guy who can be a little film geeky with me.
8/3/2009 10:25:15 PM
My hubs lied and told me he liked arcade fire so he would get laidIt worked
8/3/2009 10:25:43 PM
nobecause deemarie listens to some lame shit. she likes my music, though, so if we're riding in the car together we listen to my stuff. i only really listen to music when i'm driving.
8/3/2009 10:25:56 PM
She has to like my banjo. And not be jealous of it.
8/3/2009 10:27:33 PM
not important at all, unless they make me listen to it

8/3/2009 10:27:47 PM
^^agreed somewhat. i dont mind listening to music i otherwise wouldnt listen to, but there better be some kinda tradeoff at least...if not you are just being the mat for her/him to step on[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 10:31 PM. Reason : .]

see, music is pretty much integral to my life.for instance, this year each of my vacations i've taken have centered around going to see live music or going to the beach.i peruse music blogs and review sites constantly, and have music playing probably 90% of the time im awake.tv doesn't interest me the way music does.right now i've got baseball on mute, but running through the mew album i've been meaning to give a listen to.basically what im getting at is that if i'm dating a girl and she doest have a shared passion for music, there's going to be distention, if only for the fact that im going to be going out for shows or whatever quite a lot, and if she cant get into that, well then, it's going to be a problem.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 10:29 PM. 8/3/2009 10:28:43 PM
^I don't have time for all that shit.
8/3/2009 10:29:49 PM
^^ sorry we're not all into gangsta rap
8/3/2009 10:30:22 PM
i'm just (not to OBC specifically, but in general) saying either don't make it a big deal or be prepared to listen to my stuff if i listen to yours, because its only fair. honestly lucyinthesky was the one that prompted this thread, from something she posted earlier today
8/3/2009 10:39:19 PM
"well outkast aren't really rappers anyway right? i mean they just made that song hey ya right?""well i guess its been a good night... i should take you home now"
8/3/2009 10:40:51 PM
B.O.B. reminds me of an uncultivated andre 3000. Listen to "I'll be in the sky".While similar taste in music is a turn-on, it's movies, sports and food/beer that get me most excited. I can talk about/analyze those things FOREVER.
8/3/2009 10:44:45 PM
at this point in my life as long as she has a pulse, i'm not complaining. i'd prefer we shared musical taste, but its certainly not a deal breaker.
8/3/2009 10:44:49 PM
8/3/2009 10:47:14 PM
Haha, so, the sports I like to talk about are not necessarily guy-friendly. Tennis, marathons, watersports and ACC basketball. And fantasy football. Not necessarily the most guy-friendly in all cases.
8/3/2009 10:51:59 PM
women liking the same music as me is a turnoff. because 99.9% of them are ghetto black girls
8/3/2009 10:53:10 PM
^ so any girl you are involved with automatically has better taste in music than you just by not listening to the same thing
8/3/2009 10:54:40 PM
as long as a guy will give Nerf Herder a try and come watch me karaoke old school rap songs, then we're golden
8/3/2009 10:56:14 PM
While I listen to all kinds of music, the stuff I like most right now is fairly extreme, doom metal, etc. -- I kinda take it for granted that most ladies aren't gonna be particularly thrilled with, say, Sunn O))).

im already engaged to someone else who loves music and has a lot of overlapping taste so that works out awesome for me but if I was single, it wouldn't be a deal breaker if they didnt like the EXACT same stuff as me, but it definitely would be if they were just into top 40 or radio rock etc. Music plays too big of a part of my life to go through it with someone who isnt at least into music more than the average person (and into something that remotely falls within my preferences at that). That being said, I also wouldnt date some girl JUST because she listened to the same music as me.But I would need a girl (and have one) that is cool with me taking 3 weeks off from work and leave her to go record an album, or is cool with us spontaneously driving 4 hours to a show on a worknight just to see a band that I saw 6 months ago, or a girl who is down with planning vacations around seeing bands play etc.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 11:18 PM. i am only interested in men who like obscure music that no one has ever heard of. that is so hottt.
8/3/2009 11:19:20 PM
lol @ twoozles
8/3/2009 11:20:06 PM
I knew I had a good one when she liked parts of The Sound Of Perseverance on our first road trip together.
8/3/2009 11:20:41 PM
i dont think ive ever dated anyone who didnt have at least a pretty big collection of music that i hated.not really a big deal though except on road trips. and even then not really a big deal. i think its gay to not like girls cause they listen to dumb music.haha ITS GAY hillary duff is gonna get me!
8/3/2009 11:51:28 PM
8/3/2009 11:54:27 PM
^^ hey now, no one said anything about hating the girl I don't think. the question was would it affect the ability for a serious relationship to occur. if they are listening to hillary duff, then I doubt music is more than passing/background entertainment for them. and you know what? thats fine, not everyone immerses themselves in music for more than entertainment, but thats just not someone I could date then if thats how their overall tastes were.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 11:59 PM. Definitely a plus. When I first started talking to the boyfriend I realized we liked pretty much the same exact stuff, just listened to different bands. Dope/Nonpoint, Nightwish/Hammerfall, etc. I'm not as into punk as he is, but otherwise we like the same stuff. Makes life a lot easier.
8/3/2009 11:59:31 PM
I would say for the most part I need compatibility. I really can't stand some of Ken's music but for the most part we match very well. It is important to me.[Edited on August 4, 2009 at 12:00 AM. Reason : an ex was disgusted by some of my music and that helped the wedge for sure.]

I like girls who are passionate about their music. The type doesn't really concern me, since I can listen to anything.Except country.

no. you aren't aware of what is going on here since you didn't realize that i was ripping on you in my first post.

I didn't realize that. I too like to pad. You are not aware of what is going on here. I'm ripping you up right now.
